About the Role

The ABC’s Western NSW team is looking for their next features reporter, a role that digs deeper into the stories of the diverse audience of the region.

From NSW’s largest indigenous populations, the culturally diverse communities of the region and the evolving challenges of country towns – you’ll be on the road, bringing these stories to the many platforms of the ABC.

Grab a map and look at all places from Dubbo to Bourke, Mudgee to Brewarrina, Coonabarabran to Lightning Ridge.

Across two indigenous nations and a land mass at about the size of Belgium, there’s boundless stories to tell.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff and working together within a small team, you will create content for multiple platforms to engage local and national audiences.

You will also:

  • Create original, accurate content for radio, video, social, digital, mobile, TV and audio platforms.
  • Facilitate and moderate audience driven content initiatives, including social news-gathering.
  • Explore and investigate issues, people and places that are important to the audience, and tell those stories to a national diverse audience.
  • Develop digital skills of content teams through mentoring and guidance.

About You

Do you have strong editorial instincts, with experience in creating unique stories that resonate with audiences and told with creativity, brevity and flair?

To be successful in this role, you will also have:

  • Proficiency in capture of audio, video and still images to enhance stories, and post-production experience.
  • Understanding of local regional audience and national audience habits.
  • Tech savvy mindset using content management systems and social media tools.
  • Great communication skills to build relationships with people from a range of diverse backgrounds.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel to remote locations .
  • Current valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrated skills, experience and qualifications relevant to the position. Tertiary educated and non-tertiary applicants are both encouraged to apply.
