The Role
The position of Drainage Engineer within the Highways and Bridges Team predominately involves pit and pipe design for major highways, stormwater basin design, water ways assessments of bridge upgrades, stormwater drainage design for mine sites, transverse culvert design for rail and road, flood modelling and urban development stormwater design. The role offers a significant opportunity to establish yourself within a diverse and growing team of hydrological professionals and to ultimately broaden your experience across the wider water resources sector.
The successful applicant will be required to undertake and demonstrate:
- Catchment study analysis including hydrological estimation of rainfall
- Assess hydraulic performance of a closed and open drainage systems
- Design and augment existing drainage system including piped network and infiltration basins
- Able to incorporate water sensitive urban design for water quality control
- Perform hydraulic modelling of rivers and waterway under bridges and floodway
- Undertake flood plain modelling for high level inundation
- Understanding of groundwater implications on surface water management design
- Design of the afore mentioned will require a high standard of documentation and reporting
We anticipate that the role best suits a level of industry experience in the range 3 to 5 years, but engineers with up to 10 years' experience are encouraged to apply as a more senior role could also be created to suit the right mix of skills and experience.
About You
- Experience in highways, mining, urban, rail and bridge design projects
- Waterways and flooding assessments
- Consulting engineering or a similar local/state government roles
- Good time management, written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with 12d Model and CAD design software
- Experience using hydrologic and/or hydraulic modelling software (eg DRAINS, HEC-RAS, XPSTORM, TUFLOW),
- Experience with GIS (Maplnfo or ArcGIS).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Civil/Environment Engineering
- CPEng status with Engineers Australia – desirable
