School Psychologist

Scotch College has the opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Psychologist to join our Psychological Services team in Term 2. This position will be based in the Senior School with the key responsibilities of assisting students, teachers and parents to solve a wide range of educational and psychological problems. The primary goals are to enhance educational outcomes, promote social and emotional growth of students and provide specific support for at-risk students.

Reporting to the Deputy Head of Senior School, the Senior School Psychologist works independently and highly collaboratively with House Heads and the Pastoral Care Team as well as the Academic Support Team. This is a part time 0.8 FTE position for Term 2.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • A broad understanding of mental health issues and appropriate treatment options
  • Highly developed counselling skills
  • A solid understanding of boys education, learning difficulties and disabilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of best practice in education and counselling
  • A strong understanding of the developmental needs of young people and adolescents
  • Familiarity with an educational environment and educational planning
  • Highly developed professional ethics including the ability to maintain confidentiality and boundaries
  • The ability to build trusting, respectful relationships with students, parents, peers and external helping professionals
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
