Applications are invited for the position of Director of Studies at Ascham School. Ascham School 
Ascham is an independent day and boarding school for Girls, established in 1886. It is a Prep to Year 12 school with no religious affiliation that provides a strong academic program and a nurturing and inclusive environment. The school is located in the inner eastern suburbs of Sydney and has compelling evidence of high-quality teaching and commitment to excellence.

The Role 
The Director of Studies is responsible for all Years 7-12 academic reporting as well as overseeing the development of the academic timetable in the Senior School. It will be the responsibility of the Director of Studies to liaise with the New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA) to ensure Ascham’s compliance with its regulations and requirements. This role is a member of the Senior Leadership Team. This position has a limited amount of teaching, a minimum of 0.2 FTE (Full Time Equivalent) load. 

Specific Accountabilities: 
  • Overall responsibility for academic reporting for Years 7-12. 
  • Administering all internal and external examinations. 
  • Overall responsibility for Senior School timetable. 
  • Providing advice on subject choices to girls and parents. 
  • Lead the Learning Enhancement Team. 
To be successful, you will be able to: 
  • Provide staffing advice to the Head of School and Director of Curriculum and Learning.
  • Arrange analysis and coordinate School based action plans for public testing results including the Year 10 Record of School Achievement, the Higher School Certificate, NAPLAN and Robert Allwell testing.
  • Take responsibility for all Years 7-12 academic reporting procedures (with NESA).
  • Manage all timetabling for Senior School with the Assistant to Director of Studies.
  • Oversee study registering.
  • Oversee and lead coordinators of Dalton 7-9 and 10-12.
  • Oversee exam timetabling with the Assistant to Director of Studies. This includes organisation and close liaison with the external exam supervisors as well as any volunteers for disability provisions of tests and exams.
  • Take responsibility for the HSC ATAR advice to students, parents and staff and oversee all HSC assessment issues and resolution. 
  • Chair the Committee for Academic Malpractice.
  • Lead the Learning Enhancement department to manage modifications to a student’s academic program and provide advice to students and parents on the implications of any changes.
  • Comply with the School’s obligations in relation to National Child Safe Standards and processes for mandatory reporting and reportable conduct.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum and Learning to manage staff and student concerns. 
 Experience and Qualifications: 
  • Appropriate qualifications in education with a preference for or working toward a post graduate qualification in educational leadership.
  • Experience in a middle management role.  
  • Be eligible to teach in NSW and meet all NESA requirements and Standards.  
  • Maintain a valid NSW Working with Children Check.
