About the role

Reporting to the Division Manager, this position involves the effective and timely submissions of tender for the supply of structural steel products across a range of construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain client and supplier relationships
  • Prepare accurate estimates by gathering information and determining key variables and analysing important metrics
  • Provide cost saving and design alternatives to provide competitive project delivery

Overall Responsibilities

  • Maintain relationships with key vendors, subcontractors, engineers, site & operational personnel
  • Understand the project and program and its requirements
  • Provide take offs from technical drawings and construction plans
  • Aid in all facets of the project design and quotation process
  • Ensure a quality product is presented and client expectations are met 
  • Provide estimates for both standard and nonstandard precast solutions
  • Provide input into tenders, quotes and contract reviews for major projects
  • Address technical concerns, ideas and suggestions
  • Select advantageous deals by evaluating offers and quotes
  • Use appropriate software for data analysis, forecasting and budgeting
  • Assist in the preparation of work orders, progress claims and invoices and maintaining project files
  • Acquire understanding of the requirements of the project and program at hand
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects and other decision makers to determine the specifications of the project
  • Select metrics and determine key variables for cost and other estimates
  • Ensure high quality, innovative and functional design is achievable
  • Adhere by all site policies and procedures

Requirements

  • Hold relevant qualifications in Estimating or similar
  • Have previous experience in an Estimating role in a structural steel environment
  • Structural steel and installation experience
  • Proficient in software applications such as Excel and Cubit
  • Excellent people skills; the ability to converse with all levels within the organisation
  • Have the ability to meet deadlines
  • Have the ability to sort and meet costings/budgets
  • Visual awareness and eye for detail
  • Analytical mindset and excellent numerical skills
  • Conversant with the Building Code of Australia
  • Have a sound understanding of the Australian construction industry
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans and drawings
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills required for dealings and negotiations
  • The ability to multitask, problem solve and organise activities with good time management 
  • Hold suitable industry knowledge and experience
  • Be computer literate
  • Have a valid driver’s licence
  • Show a commitment to safe work practices including being able to pass a drug and alcohol screening, including on-site random testing
  • Pass a full pre-employment medical prior to commencement
