About the Position:

Reporting to the General Manager, the Senior Accountant's key responsibilities include analysing financial transactions, preparing and presenting financial reports, performing account reconciliations, processing fortnightly pay runs, maintaining the general ledger and assisting with auditing preparations. 

An ability to investigate, generate and provide accurate and trustworthy financial data is a crucial component of this role. The Senior accountant must have a sound knowledge of various accounting and payroll software applications and platforms.  Experience with foundU payroll platform would be advantageous, but not essential.


Essential Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA or equivalent required.
  • Must possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in general accounting.
  • Must be detail oriented with strong financial analysis skills.
  • Prepare and process fortnightly payroll.
  • Possession of excellent time management skills.
  • Experience and sound understanding of payroll processing.
  • Superior reporting skills essential.


Role Responsibilities: 

  • Ensuring the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, accurately reconciling and entering transactions.
  • Prepare and record asset, liability, revenue and expense entries by compiling and analysing information.
  • Manage the payroll system, the input, payroll amendments, calculation and collection of all necessary payroll and financial data.
  • Resolve discrepancies in payroll.
  • Sound understanding of tax legislation as it applies to payroll.
  • Review payroll balance sheets.
  • Oversee scheduled preparation of management reports, which consist of weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly reports regarding payroll, leave accruals, hours worked, benefits, deductions and payroll tax deductions.
  • Work with human resources in order to implement and align a more advanced benefits and payroll system.
  • Update payroll and financial procedures and policies when necessary.
  • Preparation and lodgement of monthly corporate taxes including FBT, Income Tax, quarterly Business Activity Statements (BAS’s) and Payroll tax.
  • Manage the issuance and production of electronic bank transfers.
  • Review and analyse current benefits, payroll and tax procedures with the goal of making recommendations concerning improvements that can be made to those procedures.
  • Assist with preparation of financial statements and budget according to schedule.
  • Assist with tax audits and tax returns.
  • Analyse financial information and summarise financial status.
  • Participate in financial standards setting and in forecast process.
  • Review and lodgement of STP fortnightly and finalisation annually.
  • Investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance.
  • Oversee and manage accounts payable and receivable
  • Generate and provide various monthly financial reports for management
  • Contribute to the development of your own and team’s technical acumen
  • Oversee general accounting operations by controlling and verifying financial transactions.
  • Identify accounting errors and recommend ways to improve efficiencies and spending.
  • Liaise and communicate with external accountants.
  • Develop new or amended business processes and finance policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Basic understanding of Fair Work modern awards preferred but not essential.
  • Any other accounting duties as assigned and directed.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA or equivalent required.
  • Must possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in general accounting.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and familiar with Systems Applications Products.
  • Punctuality and reliability are crucial. 
  • Expertise with an online ledger system.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential.
  • Advanced experience using accounting and payroll software.
  • Able to plan, to organise and prioritise financial requirements/assignments and meet critical business deadlines.
  • Flexible and able to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Able to adjust priorities in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Able to manage multiple financial assignments simultaneously.
  • Must possess a positive, ‘Can do’ attitude.
  • Must be an active participant in the Sanctuary Senior Management team.
  • Full compliance with all sanctuary policies, procedures and Core Values.
