Applications are sought from Registered Nurses interested in pursuing a midwifery career. The Graduate Diploma of Midwifery is offered in conjunction with the LaTrobe University through their Bendigo campus. The course will run for a period of twelve months starting early February 2022. This is a part time – fixed term  position of 32 hours per week. Successful incumbents will be paid as an RN Grade 2.

About the Role:
The Mildura Base Hospital’s Maternity Unit has 12 (8 staffed, 4 unstaffed) antenatal/postnatal beds, 4 (3 staffed, 1 unstaffed) Birth Suites, 2 Antenatal Midwifery Assessment beds and a 6 bed (4 staffed, 2 unstaffed) Special Care Nursey, which cares for babies 34 weeks gestation or 2000gms. Student Midwives rotate through all of these areas. The service covers the North West region of Victoria and part of NSW. Within excess of 850 births per year, it is our aim is to provide family centred care to the women in the Sunraysia District.

The course would require the participants to work four paid shifts, three clinical shifts in Maternity Unit and one shift per week in the Birthing Suite. The successful applicants would need to be prepared to attend unpaid blocks of study leave in Bendigo.

Successful incumbents in the above program are also offered an ongoing position in our graduate Midwifery Program in 2023.  

About you:
Applicants must have a passion to work with women and their families throughout the entire pregnancy and childbirth experience. A teamwork approach and excellent time-management skills are essential. Post-graduate experience in an acute clinical setting along with well-developed assessment, communication, documentation and problem solving skills are desirable. Registration as an RN with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency is essential.
