We are looking for a Cadet Journalist to join the Shepparton News editorial team.
The role offers a great opportunity for university graduates to jumpstart their career in media and hone their journalistic skills under the friendly guidance of experienced, senior journalists.
The right candidate will enjoy the life of a busy newsroom, learn to cover a variety of rounds and topics, and become proficient in multiple reporting styles and forms. Most importantly, you will become an integral part of our community, create genuine relationships with its members and deliver important stories to our readers.
You will produce news stories and features as well as breaking news online; you will be introduced to taking professional photos, creating podcasts and video content; and you will also grow highly proficient in the use of social media.
Candidates will need to show exceptional written and verbal communication, the ability to build networks quickly and the confidence to develop their own stories. A strong work ethic, excellent time management and the ability to deal with deadline pressure, and well-developed research and writing skills are also a must. A valid driver’s licence and willingness to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings and public holidays are essential.
