Karlka Recruiting Group has partnered with a Federal Government Agency to engage an APS5 Surveillance Team Leader. This position is located in their busy Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney or Perth offices for an initial contract until 30/06/2022.
  
About the Position
These positions will work as part of the Surveillance team, locally and nationally, to undertake and support surveillance activity.

Duties
  • Supervising and managing the performance of a team
  • Providing technical, administrative and managerial guidance to team members on key pests of biosecurity concern
  • Assess biosecurity risk pathways at importer premises and plan field surveillance for pests
  • Conduct surveillance project activities at the border and post border sites/premises
  • Undertake reporting on surveillance results and outcomes
  • Ensure project milestones are met and contribute to project governance reporting
  • Supervise and conduct routine triage of field samples
  • Collect, prepare and submit samples and liaise with diagnosticians to obtain accurate and timely pest identifications
  • Contribute to pest status reporting as required
  • Liaise with regional coordinators to ensure remotely managed staff are supported locally and surveillance activities are aligned with existing policies
  • Ensure surveillance supplies are in stock
Requirements/Skills
  • Demonstrated experience in remote team management
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting/applying technical knowledge
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, managing and conducting surveys or surveillance activity relating to entomology, plant pathology or botany
  • Good knowledge of pesticides and their regulation is beneficial
  • Driver's licence
  • Physical requirements of the role involve a combination of outdoor, laboratory and office-based work
  • Intra and interstate travel may be required for this position
