PNGFP's extensive range of products and services for the domestic and export markets include: plywood and treated pine timber; modular bridging and decking systems; kit homes and pre-fabricated buildings; project construction and infrastructure developments, retail outlets and farming. PNGFP also operates and maintains Hydro power stations, high voltage substations and grid lines with commercial power distribution.
About the Opportunity
PNG Forest Products now has an exciting opportunity for a full-time General Manager to join their team in Bulolo, PNG.
Reporting directly to the Executive Managing Director, your main responsibility will be to oversee and manage PNGFP revenue generating operations, and ensure the timely and effective delivery of all products. You will also need to manage and ensure that staff throughout various operational teams work in a coordinated and effective manner.
This position will oversee the organisation's Shared Services Division, which covers areas that include Finance and IT, Sales and Marketing, Purchasing, Logistics, Human Resources and other administrative functions.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a minimum of 5 years' of proven experience as a General Manager in a medium to large manufacturing business, and preferably a Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or a related field. Although not essential, qualifications that include a MBA will be viewed favourably.
You will need to be an effective leader with strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with senior managers, peers and staff. You will also be a skilled negotiator with a strong and disciplined approach to management, offering stability and leadership in challenging circumstances.
The ability to manage priorities on a day-to-day basis is essential. This role is a diverse and demanding position, combining solid managerial and operational experience and expertise with rational decision-making. You will need to demonstrate contemporary knowledge of best practice in Management, as well as a broad understanding of manufacturing preferably with wood products although not absolutely essential.
You will have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide outcomes that resolve immediate demands, while also promoting strategies for more optimal long-term solutions. It is also paramount that you are able to foster a safety-first culture.
Please note: you will be required to hold a current Passport that has been valid for a minimum of 2-3 years, and you will need to be willing to commit to working in Papua New Guinea.
For the purpose of work permits, candidates who are progressed to the interview stage will be required to provide a copy of their passport.
