PMB Defence is a world leading manufacturer of submarine battery systems, which started delivering and supporting the main storage batteries for Australia’s Collins Class Submarines in 1989.  PMB Defence will continue to support Collins Class Submarines well into 2040s under Life Of Type Extension (LOTE).  PMB Defence has now grown its business by winning various local and international contracts (supplying both traditional as well as new technology submarine battery systems) to Canada, the United Kingdom, Sweden and other international customers.

About the role

This position is available on either a full time or part time basis for a twelve month parental leave contract, with possibility for extension. Reporting to the HR Manager, this role will provide human resources support to managers and employees with a service delivery focus on all people-related touchpoints across the entire Employee Lifecycle.  Our workforce is diverse and includes engineering, production, trades and corporate support functions, so the successful candidate will need to be comfortable operating across all areas. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing end to end recruitment activities, including facilitating the induction and onboarding process;
  • Providing informed and accurate advice on all people related queries;
  • Supporting learning, leadership and the employee experience across the business through the delivery of presentations, training and engagement programs;
  • Managing certification & licence database, identifying needs for training and upskilling as appropriate;
  • Supporting the Return to Work process as required;
  • Proving quality HR and general administrative support for the business as required.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in a similar generalist HR role including recruitment processes is essential
  • Excellent time management skills and the capability to prioritise competing demands, whilst ensuring attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • High level communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills and the ability to build trusted relationships
  • A strong team focus and a positive approach to work 
  • A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable

Other requirements

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Obtain a current police clearance
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment medical and Drug & Alcohol screen
  • Undertake six monthly lead in blood testing
  • The ability to obtain an NV1 Australian Defence Security clearance (essential), or hold an existing clearance (desirable)
