The Candidate

We are looking for an experienced Engineer who is keen to develop their career with a company who is at the forefront of building simulation technology. The successful candidate will research and advise on energy usage within buildings, they will also establish control systems in order to monitor operational efficiency and performance of materials and buildings.

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced BIM, Digital Twins, HVAC engineer to join our Melbourne HQ team, responsible for building/integrating our new Digital Twins/Triplets platform . You will build detailed Digital Twins and BIM systems models including HVAC run simulations of building and mechanical system design alternatives, and advise clients on the results of those simulations. You will have the opportunity to assist the development of a world leading disruptive platform by taking our current multi award winning platform to an entirely new level. You will build a team around you as we expand globally and rise with our organisation. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Salary package including bonuses will be based on experience and track record. The combined package may exceed $300,000


Key responsibilities

  • Take the lead in building a platform agnostic Digital Twin using VR/AR, IES and others for greenfield and brownfield buildings
  • Experience with Lidar scan data and integration into digital twins and BIM
  • Review and provide feedback on externally supplied BIM models and CAD files for adherence to our digital information requirement and relevant industry standards. 
  • Produce and manage our federated models through industry-standard BIM and CAD procedures, techniques and tools. 
  • Develop, deliver and automate BIM reporting (including 4D and 5D) for publishing as NWD and NWC formats to be accessible via a suitable viewer. 
  • Development and manage our BIM libraries and CAD templates to ensure a consistent approach to datasets and Model/Design outputs. 
  • Develop BIM systems, processes and procedures to ensure reliable and efficient BIM management processes to maintain the integrity and accuracy of Design/Model data, ensure adherence to standards and classifications (BS1192/PAS1192, ISO-19650 and Uniclass) and improve efficiency of federation and information sharing processes through automation. 
  • Conduct BIM modelling, CAD drafting and training on an as required basis. 
  • Support the integration of BIM, CAD, GIS and Visualisation, models and datasets as part of the Digital Network Approach strategy and integrated Common Data Environment (CDE) plan. 
  • Actively participate in the development and continuous improvement of our BIM and CAD environments; Digital Network Approach; and our other processes and procedures. 


Key competencies

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following key competencies: 

  • Industry Relevant Tertiary Qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or Building Physics
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems. Experience with the IES Virtual Environment software, including ApacheHVAC
  • Minimum of five years proven BIM and CAD management experience in BIM Lead or BIM Coordinator roles in major project delivery in either Infrastructure or Rail industry areas. 
  • A minimum of five years of experience in the use of industry standard BIM/CAD software applications that includes Navisworks, AutoCAD, Revit, iConstruct, Solibri and their interoperability with other BIM/CAD software suites. 
  • Specifically demonstrated skills in using Navisworks Manage software to produce project and organisational-wide federated models based off the import and federation of native and IFC file formats. 
  • Well-developed skills in the collection, structure and analysis of BIM data with the ability to interpret and report on relevant data from native and IFC datasets and automate further analysis and report generation. 
  • Strong communication skills with a demonstrated ability to interact with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including areas such as community engagement, marketing, planning and economic development, all engineering disciplines, finance and project controls. 
  • An ability to multi-task and work well under pressure to meet deadlines with autonomy or within a team environment. 
  • Clear and confident communications skills


The successful candidate may be able to demonstrate the following additional desirable competencies: 

  • Relevant certifications in BIM and CAD systems development, operation and maintenance which may include Building Smart, Autodesk, Bentley or Willow. 
  • Experience and certifications in the use of other BIM, GIS and Gaming software including Civil 3D, 12D, Open Rail Modeller, Infraworks, ArcGIS, 3DStudioMax, and Unity and Unreal gaming engines. 
  • Experience in the use of EDMS/CDE systems such as TeamBinder, ProjectWise and BIM360. 
  • Knowledge of building systems, controls and/or modelling of systems is highly desirable
  • Experience of using other building simulation software or related software tools is desirable (e.g. CAD, energy modelling, loads analysis, daylight modelling, solar modelling, HVAC design tools)
  • Experience of BREEAM, LEED and Building Commissioning
