ASX-listed PayGroup Limited (owner of Astute Payroll) is searching for a Senior DevOps Engineer who has the right to work in Australia. Our DevSecOps team is currently based in Melbourne, Australia but you can work from home - from anywhere in Australia - with no requirement for minimum days in the office.

Reporting to the Group DevSecOps Lead, you will be responsible for:

  1. working with the rest of your team to keep our applications running smoothly and safely in various production environments,
  2. supporting other teams requiring production-related assistance or guidance, and
  3. contributing to continuous improvement of our infrastructure and security systems.

We’re a tight-knit team that communicates constantly on Slack and through tickets and PRs.

Our work is primarily conducted during Eastern Australian business hours, but due to the nature of production software, work regularly happens out-of-hours.

Like you, we work to live not live to work, and this is reflected in our flexible approach to work hours (providing there’s always at least one person with production access available - this will sometimes be you).

You must have:

  • excellent security hygiene
  • a passion for continually improving systems and workflows with the latest technology
  • the ability to self-teach and to find solutions without oversight and direction
  • clear written and oral communication, including to non-technical stakeholders and in documentation
  • experience supporting a production workload utilising multiple AWS services
  • experience with infrastructure as code and configuration management tools (bonus: Terraform, Packer or Ansible)
  • solid development experience with at least one major programming language (preferably Python, but PHP and Go are also helpful)
  • experience using Docker for the development and running of applications
  • basic familiarity with at least one common database backend (such as an SQL or NoSQL flavour)
  • familiarity with Linux, git, and bash scripting
  • experience with at least one major continuous integration tool or service
  • experience utilising a ticketing system or project management software to manage your work

Bonus points for:

  • experience with Kubernetes, MySQL, MS SQL, Redis, Kafka or the Elastic Stack
  • development experience with more than one major programming language
  • familiarity with Windows server administration, including IIS
  • a working understanding of any of the following AWS services (the more the merrier): EC2 and EBS, ALBs, container services (EKS, ECS/Fargate, and ECR), RDS, ElastiCache, Elasticsearch Service, S3, EFS, Route53, ACM, SQS, SNS, SES, Lambda, DynamoDB, security services (including GuardDuty, Inspector, Macie and Cloudtrail), identity and authorization services (including IAM and AWS SSO), and other supporting services including VPCs, KMS, CloudWatch and AWS Backup
  • experience using AWS across a multi-account architecture with AWS Organizations
  • experience using an SIEM, IPS, or similar system
  • a working knowledge of more ‘traditional’ Internet and networking concepts such as TLS, DNS, routing, HTTP, e-mail protocols, etc.
  • time spent on an on-call roster (bonus: PagerDuty)
  • experience with configuring and using infrastructure or application monitoring (bonus: Metricbeat, CloudWatch, NewRelic)
  • experience with Celery or Laravel

We provide the latest hardware and any other tools you need, along with flexibility in your work to suit your lifestyle. You're welcome to work from home, from our offices (Melbourne or Sydney), a mix of both - or, from anywhere else in the country.

We understand the competitive nature that exists in the software industry at present and urge you to apply even if you think you don’t quite fit the brief.

Please provide a cover letter including your expected salary and current notice period.
