The Systems Development unit is responsible for the development of all in-house development projects and maintenance of all ESA managed applications. 

The role

We are looking for a Fullstack Java Developer to work on multiple projects with a team of developers and testers responsible for building new and support existing applications for ESA’s clients and stakeholders.

Great opportunity to expand your technical skills working on various projects in a number of different technologies.

We offer work flexibility, in January 2022 we’ll have 60% requirement working in the office and 40% working from home.

You will be required to;

  • Collaborate with team members such as Business Analysts, Project Managers, Developers, and Testers to ensure that all development work meets the agreed-upon standards and requirements
  • Create code that is efficient, reusable, and dependable.
  • Provide an estimate of work for technological solutions
  • Create documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clean code to describe and demonstrate solutions
  • Collaborate closely with the Technical Lead and Solution Architect on the architecture of the system, database, and infrastructure
  • Create a release plan before each release
  • Maintain Jenkins (CICD pipeline).
  • Strictly adhere to the Systems Development Standard Operating Procedures, which include software development rules.
  • Collaborate with ICT to keep the infrastructure of the systems you support running.
  • Monitor the performance and stability of production systems and notify the manager of any problems.
  • Investigate incidents and provide a report for each one.
  • Upgrade Java 7/8 applications to the newer version of Java.

About you

  • You are able to work across multiple projects with strong problem solving and critical thinking skills, along with high-level organisation and interpersonal skills
  • You have strong Java development experience in internet-based applications using technologies such as Spring, Restful APIs, Java/J2EE Hibernate, JQuery and AngularJS
  • You have experience with;
    • ElasticSearch
    • Linux environment, Apache and Tomcat
    • Server setup and configurations
    • PostgreSQL and MS SQL Server
    • Source code management systems (GIT)
    • Build and release management such as Jenkins
    • JIRA for task and bug tracking
  • You have some working experience with supporting .NET applications
  • You have desirable experience with;
    • Single Sign-On protocols such as CAS, SAML
    • Umbraco Content Management System
    • CAS - Central Authentication Service
    • System security standards
    • Library data and standards (such as MARC, z39.50, RDA, Bibframe) and linked-data principles and standards (including RDF and SPARQL).
