Lindsay Corporation is hiring a full-time Senior Systems Engineer at our soon to be completed central Palmerston North office. You would join our global software team spread across three locations in two countries - responsible for designing, implementing, and delivering software solutions for Lindsay’s range of innovative products. 

 

We are a global company (headquartered in Omaha - Nebraska, USA), focused on providing irrigation and infrastructure solutions to meet the needs of a growing population. 

 

As one of the world’s leading providers of irrigation and water management, our Zimmatic® irrigation systems are operating in more than 90 countries – including innovative water-saving technologies such as Precision VRI, developed right here in the Manawatu. Our infrastructure products are used world-wide to improve road safety, including the Road Zipper system deployed on the Auckland Harbour Bridge. 

 

Our global software team is responsible for developing, testing and deploying our three IIoT platforms:

  • FieldNET™- remote control and monitoring for irrigation systems, including our award-winning FieldNET Advisor irrigation recommendation system and our upcoming Smart Pivot solution
  • Elecsys Connect - remote monitoring for oil/gas/water pipelines, railways and street lighting
  • RoadConnect™ - roadside asset monitoring, including ImpactAlert™ for real-time impact detection

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the day-to-day operational aspects of the software organization, including infrastructure management/monitoring, code deployment to environments/version control, code-base management, and software quality assurance
  • Assist in the design and implementation of build, deployment, and configuration management, along with documenting the process and policies associated with each for the software organization
  • Acts as the subject matter expert, mentoring others while providing technical guidance and educating team members both within and outside of the software organization on development and operations and how they fit together
  • Continuously monitor, explore, and recommend new technologies
  • Assist in the design, implementation and testing of CI/CD pipelines and quality assurance automation for the software organization
  • Implement and test disaster recovery plans and procedures to ensure minimal downtime for users
  • Conduct system tests for security and performance
  • Adheres to the Lindsay software organization’s coding standards and guidelines, as well as the group's various processes, policies, and procedures
  • Clearly communicates issues and roadblocks in order to maintain sprint scope and efficiency

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent technical education or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in software development, infrastructure development, IT, DevOps or related field, including 2+ years of experience leading the on-time delivery of net-new DevOps projects/solutions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where constant iteration, improvement, and innovation is key to the success of the team
  • Robust problem-solving skills, the ability to learn from doing, personal accountability, and a positive and professional attitude
  • Ability to clearly and rapidly communicate problems and solutions in order to prevent bottlenecks and facilitate the release process
  • Demonstrated proficiency and ability to mentor others on all of the following technologies and tools: Linux infrastructures, SQL databases (MS SQL, PostgreSQL, etc.), NoSQL databases, CI/CD pipelines and tools, scripting/automated testing techniques and tools, various cloud providers (Azure, AWS, GCP), containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Swarm)
  • Solid understanding, experience, and ability to mentor others on all of the following: Web APIs, IoT device communication and protocols, Agile Scrum, Git Flow
