The Role

Reporting to the Head of Development, the State Development Manager will work closely with the wider Australian team including engineering, legal & commercial and finance to identify and develop utility scale wind farm and storage development projects in Victoria.   

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the identification, assessment and due diligence of utility scale renewable development and storage projects.
  • Lead and manage the negotiation of landowner agreements, neighbour and community engagement plans.
  • Obtain project approvals at various stages of the development process including planning, environment, noise, cultural heritage etc.
  • Negotiate commercial agreements where acquisition and partnership opportunities arise.
  • Establish and implement development and risk management frameworks.
  • Work with the grid team to ensure viability of the connection process.
  • Prepare detailed project reports for the Head of Development and senior management.
  • Manage project costings, budgets and time scales.
  • Support and prepare board papers, as required.
  • Build and strengthen key external stakeholder relationships.
  • Provide strategic input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the business.

About you

You will have:

  • Proven experience in developing a portfolio of utility scale wind farm development projects in the Australian market.
  • Deep understanding of the Australian Energy Market and various risks associated with this.
  • Previous commercial management experience within financial assessments, feasibility and due diligence of new opportunities and making recommendations for investment.
  • Previous experience in leading on projects and managing both internal and external consultants in progressing projects through the development life cycle.
  • Ability and coping mechanisms to manage high stress situations
  • Strong people person and have the ability to understand and influence key decision makers
  • Ability to multi-task and manage various project elements simultaneously
  • Be willing to travel and be capable of spending time away from home on site visits.
  • A current Australian driver’s licence.
  • Degree qualified in planning, engineering, environmental science or related field (desired).
