The Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council (QAIHC) is offering an opportunity to join a leadership organisation; in a position where you will work in an inspiring and positive environment to provide policy, public health and advocacy support, that will contribute to better Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes. As Manager, Health Policy, you will provide leadership to a small team responsible for providing high quality policy advice on complex and high-profile health policy and public health areas in the Aboriginal and Islander Community Controlled Health Sector in Queensland.

  • draw on a range of information sources to identify new ways of doing things
  • actively influence and promote ideas
  • manage stakeholders and relationships
  • understand the job context and environment; and
  • apply judgement and independence.

(Pre-requisite) Skills & Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification such as a Master of Public Health and/ or demonstrated experience in a similar role.
  • Specific policy development knowledge.
  • Experience in developing state and/ or national health policy.
  • Understanding of relevant state and federal government decision making process.
  • Exceptional relationship skills and an ability to engage with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Advanced communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly developed influential writing skills.
  • Understanding of the ATSICCHOs and the issues facing them.
  • Demonstrated experience of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and their leaders, respecting traditional culture, values and ways of doing business.
  • This position has been identified - it is an occupational requirement that this position be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person as permitted and arguable under Section 25 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
