About Ballarat Group Practice 

The Ballarat Group Practice operates from three separate locations and has supported patient focused healthcare to the Ballarat community for over 75 years. The organisation provides excellent service to consulting General Practitioners and Allied Health, enabling them to provide quality healthcare through offering a comprehensive range of services for the Ballarat community.

Ballarat Group Practice is a large organisation that provides services to 34 consulting Doctors, Allied Health and supports the ongoing training of GP Registrars and Medical Students. 

The General Manager has the support of a management team including a HR Manager, Finance Manager and Practice Coordinator to ensure a team of Registered Nurses and a large reception team across three locations are motivated, engaged, productive and fully support the delivery of quality clinical care. 

About the Role 

Reporting to the Chairperson and guiding a team of Executive/Directors you will be expected to oversee the day to day running of all 3 clinics whilst providing leadership and direction to staff.

You will be required to support and manage relationships with clinicians, the Finance team, HR Manager, medical and administrative staff, and external providers.

Planning and leading the accreditation process, improving practice policies and procedures continuously. There will be development required of organisational systems to maximise productivity in the workplace and reviewing the operating environment of the practice and its staff, whilst ensuring patients receive the best possible service.

There will be an expectation to take minutes at board meetings and to follow through and implement strategies and procedures from those meetings. 

About You

The General Manager is expected to have demonstrated achievement or capability in the following areas:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business or Commerce
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing a multi-site practice and understanding of the requirements of a small to medium business
  • Management skills with the ability to provide leadership, effective communication, and appropriate resources to a team of clinical professionals, financial and administrative staff
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills and a high level of negotiation skills and the ability to resolve problems innovatively
  • Ability to perform in a strategic management role and to ensure appropriate service delivery consistent with strategic objectives and the service expectations of patients is maintained
  • Financial skills with the ability to oversee the effective management of the financial operations of the practice 
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to the requirements of the role
  • Commitment to continuing education
