Beaumont&Beaumont is looking for recently admitted Junior Lawyers to work on secondment in a Commonwealth Government Taskforce. This is a unique opportunity to gain exposure to large-scale litigation in the federal government.
We are looking for candidates who possess experience in document management systems, evidence preparation and management. You will also have excellent strategic thinking, research, analytical and writing skills. The taskforce requires lawyers with 0-2 years PQE that are able to adapt to a range of issues yet to be identified.
You will be responsible for:
  • Identifying legal issues
  • Assisting with the preparation of responses to Notices to Give and any incidental legal issues arising from the notices.
  • Assisting Senior Lawyers with identifying and meeting with potential witnesses, engaging with legal representatives of parties and potential parties
  • Communicating legal concepts accurately and under supervision and expressing that advice clearly
  • Proactively engaging with more senior colleagues, including more senior practitioners, their team leader, and the General Counsel
  • Contributing to the team and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Given the nature of the work, you will need strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work under pressure. Some of the material you will be working on may be confronting, and it is important you have high levels of resilience.
In addition to holding a current Australian practising certificate, it is a mandatory requirement for these roles that you possess, at minimum, a baseline security clearance.

This role is based in Canberra; however, remote working arrangements are also possible.
This position is being offered on a full-time or part-time basis as a contract for up to 6-12 months, with a further one-year extension option, if the work of the taskforce continues beyond this period.
