Established in 1979 by the Ballarat Aboriginal community in the Ballarat district, BADAC’s vision is to be the strongest voice and presence in the Ballarat area, supporting and respecting their people, enhancing our community, growing their culture and honouring their heritage. BADAC is the Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation (ACCO) for the Ballarat and District area, covering 4 local government areas (LGAs). The organisation is extremely proud of the contribution and support they have provided the local Aboriginal community over the past 40 years delivering a comprehensive range of health, social, welfare and community development programs to local Aboriginal people.

We are currently looking for a enthusiastic and committed Community Home Support Program Maintenance Worker on a Full Time Ongoing position.


The Opportunity

The role of the Community Home Support Program Property Maintenance Worker is to work under the direction of the Community Home Support/HACC-PYP and NDIS Services Manager. The incumbent provides a range of gardening maintenance and care services to client and BADAC’s CHSP Program. The aim of this program is to support people to remain in their own home and community.


The incumbent must be in good health and have the appropriate trade skills and experience in gardening maintenance and care services. 

A sound knowledge of Aboriginal people is highly desirable for this position. 


Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide gardening maintenance and care services to BADAC CHSP program clients as directed by the Community Home Support/HACC-PYP and NDIS Services Manager.


  • Provide garden maintenance and care services including mowing, whipper snipping, pruning, poisoning and minor green waste removal.


  • Perform all duties required in the preparation of weekly, monthly and annual reports to the Community Home Support/HACC-PYP and NDIS Services Manager.


  • Maintain strict standards of confidentiality and act at all times in a professional manner in accordance with the BADAC policies and procedures. 


  • To keep all equipment provided by BADAC in clean and good condition and ensure regular maintenance is completed.


  • Ensure the CHSP Property Maintenance vehicle and trailer is serviced when required, kept clean and fuelled at all times.


  • Follow OH&S Guidelines when working with all tools. Including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and keeping the PPE maintained, repaired or replaced as necessary. 


  • Carry out other duties as directed by the Community Home Support/HACC-PYP and NDIS Services Manager.


Key Selection Criteria:


  • Have an understanding of Aboriginal people and culture.


  • A demonstrated appreciation of the issues faced by Aboriginal people and their support needs. 


  • Experience in working in gardening maintenance and care.


  • Previous experience in the working in a CHSP garden maintenance and care program (desirable)


  • An ability to provide services to the aged, frail and disabled in a culturally appropriate way.


  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team & independently. 


  • Good written and verbal communication skills.


  • Sound knowledge of OHS standards is required.


Other Relevant Information:

To be considered for roles with BADAC you will need (or be willing to have) a National Police Check, Working with Children Check, must hold a current Victorian Driver’s License.
