About VMIA

Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) is the Victorian Government’s insurer and risk adviser, covering the people and projects that help Victorians thrive. VMIA is an agency in the Department of Treasury and Finance portfolio established under the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority Act, and reports to the Assistant Treasurer.

VMIA provides insurance and risk advice to government departments and agencies, also provide domestic building insurance to builders, giving Victorian homeowners peace of mind for building projects valued over $16,000.

VMIA helps its clients prepare for, prevent, or reduce the impact of harm. When things don’t go to plan, VMIA helps its clients restore services and recover quickly.

About the role

An excellent career opportunity has emerged for a high-performing communications professional to join this leading Victorian statutory body in the role of Head of Communications.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer & Corporate Secretary, you will lead the development and execution of communications across multiple channels to support VMIA’s strategy and business objectives.

To be the successful applicant, you will need to be a senior communications professional who can quickly understand and adapt to the political, social, business and media context in which VMIA’s clients operate.

In this role, you will:
  • manage a team, budget and other resources
  • lead the development of strategic communications plans
  • partner with the heads of various VMIA business divisions to deliver useful communications outcomes
  • develop content and audiences through a variety of channels, both digital and traditional
  • monitor and evaluate engagement using key metrics to inform your comms work
  • effectively engage with various stakeholder and clients.
About you

To be considered suitable for this role, your application likely demonstrates the following:
  • Relevant degree qualifications
  • Experience in leading a communications team
  • A track record as an experienced communications / marketing all rounder
  • The ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders
  • Experience in large, complex work settings
  • Exceptional writing skills, and your experience communicating complex concepts with clarity.
In terms of your work style, you are naturally energised and results-orientated in our approach. You can deal effectively with a range of subject matter and people. A strong team orientation and collaboration with your colleagues is a hallmark of your approach.

The role is an ongoing position, offering a flexible mix of office-based and remote work.
