Beaumont&Beaumont has been engaged by our client to recruit a Senior Prosecutor to work within a NSW Federal Government Department in Grafton and Queanbeyan.
 
In this position, you will be responsible for:
  • Assessing briefs of evidence and determine ‘sufficiency of evidence’.
  • Managing overall team and individual resources including rostering.
  • Reviewing and monitoring team functions and responsibilities including:
    • performance appraisals of team members;
    • active case and practice management; and
    • ensuring compliance with the Prosecution Policy.
  • Delivering impartial, professional and quality adjudications, court appearances (hearings, call-overs and appeals), disclosure of information, legal advice and written correspondence.
  • Developing and maintaining an active working knowledge of legal constraints and precedents relating to matters of law which could influence proceedings for breaches of the relevant Law and Regulations.
  • Interpreting and providing expert advice to operational staff and prosecutors in relation to legislation and regulations relating to offences pursuant to the relevant Law.
  • Attending and prosecuting in various jurisdictions including Local, District, Supreme and Coroners Courts on behalf of the Agency 
  • Participating in sensitive and complex negotiations to facilitate the achievement of early resolution of cases.
  • Liaising with stakeholders, enforcement partners, legal practitioners and court officers regarding the conduct of prosecutions.
  • Ensuring the delivery of a high standard of customer service for internal and external clients.
  • Adhering to all policies and procedures to ensure compliance with internal processes.
  • Complying with WH&S policies and procedures and contribute and promote a safe and healthy work environment.
 
Our client has informed us that successful candidates will have flexible working arrangements with the ability to work remotely when necessary. We are looking for someone with at least 5 years PQE and is admitted in the Supreme Court of NSW or another state.
 
To be considered for this position, you must have:
  • Demonstrated significant experience and competence in the field of prosecutions or in another legal environment including all facets of trial preparations and working with court procedures, summary procedures and relevant Acts.
  • Proven high level interpersonal and communications skills including an ability to liaise effectively with staff, prosecutors, witnesses, police, counsel, members of the public and other prosecuting and investigating authorities.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Personal commitment to maintaining ethical standards within a prosecuting framework.
