The position

As the Financial Accountant, you are required to provide commercial accounting and financial management support, including analysis and advice, relating to the day-to-day finance functions of the Port,

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to;

  • Managing the month-end and year-end general ledger transactions including preparation of journal entries to ensure completeness and accuracy of the general ledger balances.
  • Prepare the general ledger reconciliation as per agreed timetables and resolve unreconciled items in a timely manner.
  • Provide support to accounts payable and receivable functions and ensure that the process manual is updated on a regular basis.
  • Responsible for managing the capitalisation process and fixed asset related processes such as useful life review, physical verification, additions/ disposals.
  • Prepare Payroll tax, Fringe benefits and income tax returns
  • Assist in financial statement preparation.

Skills and experience

You will be degree qualified in Finance, Economics or Accounting, and ideally hold membership with a professional body such as ACA or CPA.

To be successful in this role, you will require;

  • Previous experience in similar role with accounting and finance experience. 
  • Experience in accounting /finance systems and processes
  • Advance skills in MS office, especially MS Excel.
  • Thorough knowledge of Australian accounting principles and procedures is essential
  • Working knowledge of Australian legislation, regulations and policies relevant to Darwin Port is desirable.
  • The ability to display high level of professionalism, honesty and integrity in line with Darwin Port Values
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate professionally, tactfully and effectively at all levels internally and with external stakeholders in order to achieve company outcomes
  • A current Australian drivers’ licence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, high level report writing skills
