With this degree, students will learn all about the structure, physical history, composition, and dynamic systems of the planet. They will explore the planet through both theory and field experience, and use mapping, technology and historical data to build conceptual models, and learn how these models can help them estimate where mineral, water and other natural resources are located beneath the earth's surface. Students will learn how to extract these resources in a sustainable way. In the degree students will also gain experience in identifying and mitigating natural hazards. The degree is highly interactive and teaches students the specialised skills needed to work in this field. During the degree, students can choose to specialise in exploration/mine geoscience or environmental geoscience. They will also be able to hone their field skills at world renowned sites in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia. This program was developed to provide specialist training for those who wish to pursue professional careers in mineral and oil exploration, extractive industries, environmental science, or hydrogeology. The program aims to produce graduates capable of confronting and solving problems in earth science.
