Overall the experience of studying for a Bachelor of Music at Western Sydney University was a positive one - I enjoyed the course content, I was constantly challenged and engaged, the teaching staff were helpful and friendly and knowledge was given freely. Career advice was in short supply at the time, although I understand this is now being addressed, and relevance to industry was in some respects lacking unless you were going to teach or move into academia - to my knowledge the course is changing to have more practical application and insider knowledge with staff in the music industry. The study and philosophy of music itself plays a central role, so you are constantly questioning what music is for, however this is backed up with practical hands-on skills and knowledge. Facilities are excellent and technical staff always helpful and accommodating. I'm very glad I studied at WSU and would recommend it to anyone wishing to study music in depth.

The course was very good in addressing key cultural issues with music, as well as embracing philosophy of sound and music. Diversity was the key element to understanding the framework of the bachelor, where we got to experience performance, sound technologies, composition and musicology. While this has proven to be useful when creating or performing music, there was not enough effort to research careers in the music industry, nor were there any guest lectures from people working in the industry to really give solid advice about what to do when wanting to have a career in music. I have never been successfully employed in the music industry after completing the course and now considering a career change due to the lack of jobs.

I think the lack of exposure was a big factor in me studying at JMC even after I graduated from UWS
