Is this qualification right for me?

What will I learn?

In this course you'll learn to provide high-quality and safe nursing care across metropolitan, regional and rural health settings. You will be exposed to a range of speciality areas including acute care, mental health services, aged and palliative care, Indigenous health care, and primary health care. To help you prepare for the workplace most universities will mandate extensive clinical placements which will give you roughly 800 hours of clinical exposure throughout the three-year duration of the course.

Are there any entry requirements?

Entrance to a Bachelor of Nursing is typically based on your past academic performance. This could be your results in Year 12 if you have recently finished your schooling, or any previous study in a Certificate, Diploma or other higher education course. In some cases you may receive credit for previous study in a related discipline (such as the Diploma of Nursing), therefore reducing the time it takes to complete the course. Some universities may set their own selection criteria so it's best to check the exact requirements with the institution.

Where will it lead me?

This qualification will prepare you to work as a Registered Nurse in Australia. Successful completion is required if you want to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and work in the industry.

How much will it cost?

The final cost of this course will depend on a number of factors including your personal circumstances, previous experience and unit selections. Most universities will offer Commonwealth supported places (CSP), which means that for each unit you study, the government will cover a portion of your tuition. You will then pay the remainder either upfront or as part of a HECS-HELP loan. As a general guide, the total amount you might pay for this course could be around $20,000. To find the course price for you, it's best to contact the institution directly.
