Very well prepared for life after university and good graduate opportunities. The course and teaching staff assist and support students in making linkages with organisations and services for practical experience and graduate opportunities. Some poor teaching staff and incredibly disappointing lack of structure to the course, especially in final (honours) year. Little to no support for the honours thesis and very difficult to balance work/study/unpaid placement in third and fourth years.

The course was overall more than what I expected it to be, I’m so glad to have this qualification and it has influenced me to be the person I am today. I want nothing more in life but to enjoy my career and help the youth of today with the knowledge I have learnt through my experience at RMIT.

Teaching system is good, students are supported through the 6 month course. Course content is easy to understand and finish assesments. Fees are not expensive and a guaranteed pathway into the diploma of nursing.

This course taught me far more than I expected. I was already a qualified counsellor and had worked on the fringes of the social work profession (in the fields of family violence, human trafficking, marginalised women and girls) for several years before taking up this course at RMIT, so I did not expect to learn a great deal more than I already knew. However, what I gained was a depth of understanding about thought systems and power structures, in Australia and worldwide. I learned to question and dissect assumptions, how to challenge and create policies, how to to develop programs and so much more. I was challenged to dive deeper and think outside the box. I have gained a level of confidence and clarity of thinking that I did not anticipate when I enrolled in this degree. I was impressed with the teaching staff and the level of compassionate support I was given when I needed it. It has been hard work! But so worth while.

This course has a very heavy work load and emit expects a very high standard of work. The course work is demanding and the hours that you have to put in very intensive. It is a four year degree and you have to do an honours year in which you have to undertake a 10,000 we thesis. My biggest concerns are that it is a very theoretical course and perhaps not grounded in current practice norms rather it focuses on what would be the ideal situation rather than grounding in the reality of who social work is these days. Also I think that the length of the course and the work that is expected is too much for a poorly paid and largely unskilled area like social work. I feel like we are too educated for the job she we end up in. The teachers are really knowledgeable and mostly very helpful.

The course was a really great way of learning more about the Community Services industry. It took up a lot of time meaning it was difficult to both work and study, which put a strain on my personal life. Half way through the year we were told by at least one teacher and one guest speaker that the Cert would not be enough to secure work and that we would need to go through and do the diploma. Which was very disheartening as I was putting in a lot of time and effort into this course. But as I said was a good way introduction to Communtiy Services.

The course was great. Teachers were amazing. They had experience in the field which made it easy for them to explain and for us to understand. Only down side was enrolment process which was very slow.

Excellent resources and finger in the pulse of current political and social issues making course content current. However, so many changes, and restructures became a hinderance. Continuity of processes of assignment submission also was inconsistent.
