Why study this course

This program will prepare students for a career in the animation and visual effects industries. The theoretical and practical skills that are essential to these career paths are comprehensively covered through majors in Animating, Art Direction and Technical Direction. Using top of the line hardware and premium, industry-recognised software, students will produce original animated films from script to screen. In doing so, students will learn skills in concept development, storyboarding, 2D and 3D character animation, editing, sound recording, visual effects and post-production. Students will also develop the ability to work out the most appropriate animation format for specific projects - traditional drawn animation, 2D, 3D and motion-captured digital animation, 3D puppet or clay animation and other experimental media. The academic studies will be extended by studio subjects and engagement with industry production, which will enable students to gain first-hand experience. Students will work alongside film and screen media production and games design students to complete community projects and have opportunities to collaborate with students from the Queensland Conservatorium.

Student review
I had a mostly positive study experience during my Bachelor of animation, lots of room for creative growth and course content was engaging and challenging. The industry networking night in final year was very helpful. Some lecturers felt out of touch with the industry whilst others had more connection to it. During the capstone project there were issues with having to keep students on film crews despite consistent failure to meet deadlines / not following project guidelines.

The course was really enjoyable and gave me the opportunity to express myself creatively. It had broad topics that were important throughout all potential career paths, and had a lot of freedom in choosing content relevant to your interests. It could have given more insight on the industry in the beginning of the course to better shape individuals career directions. But overall had really knowledgeable mentors and tutors that created a memorable experience.

As with all tertiary education, you get out of it what you put in. It was great for networking as classmates ended up becoming the people you work with, or hear about jobs from.
