Why study this course

Environmental science is concerned with the evaluation and management of all aspects of the environment (atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and biosphere). This degree will provide students with a detailed knowledge of processes which occur in both natural and degraded environments. In the environmental science degree, students will gain considerable hands-on experience with equipment both in the laboratory and in the field (this is done in small groups to give each student equal opportunity); take part in many field trips (there are usually two to three field trips per semester); be given the opportunity to work on collaborative projects with industry (this generally involves working in small teams).

Student review
The course is very relevant and interesting, and offers great potential to learn valuable skills to apply to career opportunities. Some lecturers are incredibly inspiring and knowledgeable. Some subject practicals seemed a little disorganized and rushed, and would benefit from clearer instruction and more time allocated to complete all tasks in detail. Overall an enjoyable course.

Personally I felt that the course I completed was a great, fun, educational experience. The lecturers were good, they knew what they were teaching, but some of them were very unapproachable. The balance between theory and practical work was sub-par, given the amount of theory was immense in comparison to practical work. Thus, it's making it quite difficult to obtain employment in my field, given the lack of 'practical experience'. In saying that I am under the opinion that all courses should offer work placement. Whilst you are a student you are offered careers advice and help, but after you graduate you are provided with nothing which makes things hard. Overall, I would recommend RMIT for it's environment and it's constant improvement, the lecturers are fine, but the tutors and demonstrators make the experience a whole lot more personal. If you are going to study with RMIT be sure to get as much career advice as possible before you leave.
