This program provides students with professional legal skills, including the ability to analyse legal material and understand fundamental legal principles; an understanding of the relationship between law and society; general analytical skills for analysing and solving non-legal problems and specialised study into the Australian legal system. Special emphasis is placed on legal skills. During their course students will develop skills in advocacy, negotiation, legal drafting and legal research. Both campuses have excellent facilities, including state-of-the-art moot courts for students to practise advocacy skills and excellent library and computer-based law research facilities.

The structure and sequence of the course at Western is designed to increase in difficulty with each year. As such, this allows students skills, knowledge, maturity and confidence to shift and grow with the course. The course structure takes into consideration that not everyone will adapt to university life and content, allowing students to adapt at their own pace.
My experience of studying the course has been of great achievement. In addition to the course, Western has been extremely supportive and opened doors to my career so early on into my degree. I look forward to what more Western and the course will offer in the near future.
