This degree is designed for students who want to become professional psychologists, go on to research or build a career in a psychology-related field. The first three years provide an understanding of clinical psychology, abnormal and health psychology, behavioural neuroscience, social psychology, cognition, developmental psychology, and psychological interventions. Students can choose from a wide range of electives in areas like clinical practice, clinical neuroscience and human-animal relations. Opportunities exist to learn about the work of professional psychologists, including those associated with the psychology clinic, and take a full subject on Autism Spectrum Disorders taught by specialists from the Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre. Fourth year is an Honours year, giving students the chance to complete an individual research project under supervision. Seminars focus on psychological assessment and interventions, professional and ethical issues, psychological theory, and research methods.
