What will I learn?

The core units you complete will build the key skills needed to provide support to both teachers and students in a classroom. You'll learn to help implement educational programs, contribute to the management of a classroom, support the development of literacy, numeracy and oral language skills, and provide support to students with additional learning needs. To prepare for the workplace, you’ll be required to complete supervised work placements where you’ll gain real-world experience. The electives you complete will depend on the institution you choose to study with.

Are there any entry requirements?

Typically, there are no educational prerequisites for this course. Some institutions may set their own requirements for entry, which could include meeting set literacy and numeracy standards.

Where will it lead me?

This course prepares you for entry-level roles in schools and community education settings as a Teacher's Aide, Integration Aide or Education Support Worker. It is generally considered the minimum requirement needed to work in the industry.

How much will it cost?

The final cost of this course will depend on a number of factors including your personal circumstances, previous experience and unit selections. As a general guide, if you are eligible for a subsidised place, it's likely to cost between $2,000 and $3,000. Most TAFEs do offer a concession rate, in which case, you could pay as little as $400. Alternatively, if you are required to pay a full fee, it could cost up to $7,000. To find the course price for you, it's best to contact the institution directly.
