What's it like to be an Events Planner?
An Events Planner coordinates, executes and manages conferences, meetings and parties. They can either do this by themselves end-to-end, or in conjunction with an Events Manager or Events Coordinator working on-site on the day of the event.
Tasks and duties
- Meeting with clients to understand the event’s purpose.
- Planning the details of the event, such as the date, location, catering and transportation.
- Arrange the products and services needed, such as flowers, food and photography.
- Communicate progress to the client and obtain buy-in or approval on the details.
- Inspect places to ensure they meet the standards and requirements of the event.
- Review invoices and facilitate payments.
Events Planners are busy people. They must be good at organising, prioritising, coordinating and must have exceptional communication skills.Events Planners can organise events of all kinds, including weddings, banquets, conferences, meetings, parties and funerals.

While you don’t necessarily need a degree qualification to become an Events Planner, they may be an advantageous to your career progression.
- 1.Consider completing a Diploma of Event Management (SIT50316), or a diploma or degree in hospitality management, public relations or communications.
