Herbalist

Use plant-based medicines and natural methods to treat illness and promote improved wellbeing.

What's it like to be a Herbalist?

Herbalists study herbalism, the use of plant-based medicines and natural methods to diagnose, treat and prevent illness. They take a holistic approach to mental and physical wellbeing and often prescribe herbal medicines which are designed to improve the mind and body’s overall state rather than treat a specific set of symptoms.

Herbalists prepare and administer water-based, oil-based and powdered medicines made from plant products. Like other forms of alternative medicine, Herbalism may be used alongside traditional medicines and treatments.

Herbalists usually work in private practices, or as part of bigger group practices. They may also work in research and consultancy roles in the government and health food sectors.
