  • Planning and implementing dynamic, educational and exciting activities to develop and enhance children’s learning, creativity, wellbeing, communication, social skills and physical ability.
  • Observing, recording and assessing children’s development, learning and progress. Complete transition records and contribute to reports for allied professionals such as speech pathologists and psychologists.
  • Use knowledge of the Early Years Framework and National Quality Framework to work in compliance with all regulations.

How to become a Kindergarten Teacher

To work as a Kindergarten Teacher in Australia, you need undertake a degree course in education. These are usually full-time courses over three or four years, for people over 17 years of age or who have completed year 12 with an appropriate Universities Admission Index.

  1. Complete a bachelor degree in the field of early childhood education. This could be a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) or a Bachelor of Early Childhood. Alternatively, for students with previous tertiary qualifications, complete a two-year Master of Teaching (Early Childhood).
  2. Before being able to work as a Kindergarten Teacher, you need to lodge an application form for teacher registration in your state. It’s likely that you will also need a working with children check, first aid certification and anaphylaxis certification.
  3. There are many opportunities for career progression for Kindergarten Teachers, such as becoming a Special Education Teacher, Education Program Director or Education Coordinator.
