What's it like to be a Volunteer Manager?
Volunteer Managers identify volunteering opportunities and then recruit volunteers to participate. Volunteer Managers advocate for volunteering and work with their colleagues to identify where extra capacity or capability is needed across a business to run volunteering programs. They then recruit and manage a pool of volunteers, matching them to volunteer roles that suit their skills and interests. Volunteer Managers commonly work in not-for-profit organisations. It’s a Volunteer Manager’s role to work with their organisation to ensure a safe volunteering environment and that any regulatory and compliance requirements are met. Volunteer Managers have the opportunity to connect volunteers with meaningful roles that help deliver crucial programs and services to those in need.
Tasks and duties
- Promoting programs to attract volunteers and advocating for the benefits of volunteering.
- Sourcing and curating volunteering opportunities.
- Matching volunteers with suitable opportunities.
- Communicating with and engaging volunteers and their colleagues across an organisation.
- Preparing staff for volunteering by educating, training and providing equipment if required.
- Ensuring a safe environment for volunteering to take place.
- Building relationships with Volunteer Managers across other organisations to understand and implement best practices.
