Bad management from the top down; avoid at all cost (Gold Coast specific)
The good thingsI really cannot think of any.
The challengesCould start by staffing your hotels adequately. Afford the equipment your staff need in order to be "productive" (i.e. if I have to vacuum the same spot ten times with your old/terrible vacuum -- is it my problem?)

If you are working in an established department you will find friendly and supportive team members.
The good thingsThe team was very supportive.
The challengesThe higher ups, regarding new ventures, don't really know what they want with a new venture and therefore there isn't any great support.

Overworked and constantly needing to go overtimeRoom attendant/housekeeping teams are often incredibly understaffed. This leads you to be assigned around 20-30 rooms every single shift, even as a part-time worker who's shift is 5 hours. Plus, you can't take a break, they always write in your breaks despite you not taking it. For the amount of work you are incredibly underpaid. Plus, most of us always go overtime because we cant leave until all the rooms we're assigned to are finished - which is incredibly tough as they overassign you rooms.

Management forcing you to write your break when you NEVER took it ever. Constantly overworking yourself to meet the deadline on rooms being cleaned quick enough. Working solo was a lot of work physically and mentally.
The good thingsCan't say many positives really.
The challengesStaff are overworked, not getting enough money for the job we do. Constantly getting sick, I legit got covid from this job. Staff are expected to write down their lunch breaks when we didn't get to take them. People would literally eat while working to have food. Should have taken this to fair work.

Excessive Workload, Poor Supervision, and Unrealistic Expectations in a Demanding Role
The good thingsOccasional positive interactions with guests.
The challengesThe job was a total nightmare. The supervisors were useless and only knew how to boss us around. They'd call us back for the silliest things, like forgetting to put milk in the room from the pantry which is in the same floor! Every supervisor had their own way of doing things, making it confusing and stressful. The workload was insane, with unrealistic cleaning times and a ton of tasks to do. No one helped each other, and it was physically demanding. The pay was terrible (on weekdays), considering how much work we had to do. Some guests were incredibly messy, making our jobs even harder. It was just a really tough and underappreciated job.

I enjoyed working for this company during my time there.
The good thingsAwesome team management, friendly staff, good work hours, beautiful location, and easy to learn the skills required.
The challengesHard work, and pay can be low as a part-time. Also sometimes guests trash their rooms really badly which sucks so it can be a little on the unsavoury side.

I would not recommend people to work in this industry. For students and short term, look for other jobs within your field after a month of working with AHS. HR will not help and the pay is very low.
The good thingsFlexible hours and days to suite your schedule. Workplace is in the city center.
The challengesLow wage per hour Completing a room within 30 mins with washing dishes, deep cleaning. 15 mins for light service room but the time is not enough. Expected to complete at least 13 rooms a day with superior rushing you to be quicker even though it takes time.

    Disgusting
The good thingsMade friends with my co-workers
The challengesThe serious lack of respect by management to the housekeeping staff is utterly disgraceful. Understaffed for the work load, no support or acknowledgment from management for the work done. Management are only looking after themselves, only to the detriment of the housekeeping staff. Night turnover of staff and the pay is extremely poor.

    Stressful
The good thingsInteracting and friendliness of the guest towards myself
The challengesMissing items and trying to find things that's required for me to complete my task so this is time wasted and then taking to long to complete my board in the set time located to complete. Also the lack of communication with management when constantly asking and explaining the problem with roster to be ignored and then end up losing job because of this.

Diversity and Inclusion were often celebrated. That means everyone was encouraged to bring a plate of food from their culture. This happens pretty often considering that our salary was quite low, it's a lot of contribution to educating people in the office. However, the company knows what those words meant. All of the senior leadership team members are caucasian from different parts of the world.
The good thingsA "younger crowd" and corporate life. Lovely office in a nice building in CBD.
The challengesMany challenges in the role. Too many "managers" and many of the responses have always been "let's book in a time" then the meeting gets cancelled, moved and cut short. Approvals don't usually get made. Budget is never clear and shared so can't really plan ahead.

Overall, it is a very good organization and they support the employees to their best capacity.
The good thingsYou feel supported working with this organization, friendly and inclusive culture, equal opportunities for all people regardless of their background. Its a shame that I'm currently not working with AHS but if there comes an opportunity, I would definitely rejoin this dynamic wonderful company.
The challengesThe challenging part, which is common in any business is competition within the industry, which sometimes creates a bit of pressure to the housekeepers, but this is something you expect and find better way to deal with it.

Work environment is good, salary is low as compared to the workload and expectancy from staffs. Short amount of time is given to clean rooms immaculately.
The good thingsGood communication between housekeeping staff.
The challengesHaving to complete check outs and normal cleaning at a shorter period of time gets very challenging at times because sometimes the rooms are very dirty and needs more time to clean but managers don’t seem to understand these, pressurizing the staffs.
