Not a good place to work as a full time staff member / manager.
The good things-Discounts for yourself and family - Fast paced work environments, never boring - Opportunities for growth and learning in numerous areas
The challenges-Minimal support from head office, ops managers & senior managers -High expectations but minimal training -Long hours, 9-12 hour days. Sometimes no breaks as a manager -No flexibility, leave rejected, punished for taking sick days /having family issues even on a weekday -Constantly understaffed & many labour cuts. Overworked & stressful job. -Systems outdated making it hard to learn & work effectively -Negative attitudes from staff as a result of the above / managements lack of support & high expectations -Customer complaints due to quality, long wait times, dirty tables. Mainly due to lack of staff - Many venues in need of repair -Salary does not match workload or the hours (45 hours but paid for 38) -Full time staff FORCED to work Christmas Day with no option, which is so inconsiderate. No value for staff or their family / wellbeing. -No recognition for hard work. Bonuses are either non eligible or minimal. Staff are called out for doing the wrong thing but never the right.

Just look for a job somewhere else. Its not worth the headache.
The good thingsNothing to enjoy here. Everything comes in frozen bags, just open them up and serve them.
The challengesThere was no communication or support from higher-ups. They just throw you into a pit and expect you to somehow make it work. Every time there is a problem, they won’t even acknowledge it for months. Nobody cares about hygiene or cleaning here

The first 10 years of my career with ALH were great. I learnt so much and progressed in my career with alot of support from head office. The last 3 years was a very steep decline into trash that it currently is
The good thingsThe people you meet and the friendships made. Learnt a lot about how NOT to treat people
The challengesZero training. Zero support from ops managers. Zero control in how you run the venue you work at (not matter how much they tell you you do)

Inconsistency between Venue Managers and Regional Managers
The good thingsConnecting with other Hospo Professionals and forming relationships
The challengesUpper Managment kept uprooting Venue Managers and shuffling them around. This caused inconsistency with staff and patrons were unable to form a relationship with the person in charge. Processes kept changing, different management styles and overall became a mess for venues.

A poor career choice for anyone to consider.
The good thingsThe customers were genuinely friendly.
The challengesA poor Management approach to training staff. You were virtually “thrown into the deep end and expected to swim”, without quality training and guidance. This approach is sure to kill anyone’s confidence, self esteem, and overall workplace contentment. Needless to say, I promptly did myself a favour and left ALH Hotels. DO NOT STAIN YOUR CAREER BY WORKING HERE.

Pay was good but don't let that "suck you in", rostered on for up to 44 hours and only get paid for 38. VM unprofessional in the way team members were talked about to other team members but also happily made excuses for the lazy one because "he's been with the company for a long time" no safe or "fine free" parking available to staff.
The good thingsStaff discounts, great staff and customers
The challengesLong hours with no work/life balance, not being told things that I should have been told from day one but expected to "work it out for myself".

I did not enjoy my experience here.
The good thingsThe discounts were a nice to have
The challengesOld-School leadership above venue level from support office to people partners. No willingness to learn a new way of doing things. Toxic leadership where people in senior roles should not be there. Poor culture in venues.

Great Venue, Poor Leadership - not worth the stress as an Employee
The good thingsPaid on Time Working with very experienced co workers that would have probably left if they didn’t need the job
The challengesMy experience with the hotel was overshadowed by the conduct of the manager. Communication was consistently poor—not only with me as a guest but also with the staff. There was a noticeable lack of respect in the way the manager spoke to team members, often belittling them in front of guests, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere. Several staff, including myself, felt demoralized by the lack of support and encouragement. A role in hospitality requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead with respect and empathy—qualities this manager, unfortunately, did not demonstrate. While the property itself may appeal to some, the leadership seriously detracts from the overall experience. And the wage I see has not gone up in the 2 years I haven’t worked there Not worth the trouble

Great people. Poor management. Best staff get burnt out quick.
The good thingsMade so many friends and had great outside of work relationships.
The challengesLazy staff and poor management. Management do nothing while the best team members carry the weight of the rest of the team. The best team members are extremely burnt out due to carrying a lazy team.

The good thingsI did not have a good working experience here. Staff and management are extremely rude and create a toxic workplace

Hostile toxic and Unwelcoming Work EnvironmentI worked at an ALH venue and, unfortunately, had a very negative experience. The workplace culture was extremely unhealthy, with constant negativity and a lack of basic respect — particularly from the managers and assistant managers. I was often treated unfairly and made to feel excluded and unwelcome. As someone from a culturally diverse background, I frequently felt singled out and subjected to inappropriate behavior and insensitive remarks. There was little to no support or accountability when issues were raised, and the leadership often responded with defensiveness or disregard. The overall environment took a toll on my wellbeing. I would not recommend ALH Hotels to anyone looking for a respectful or inclusive workplace.

    Perfect start not perfect growth
The good thingsConnecting vital information from within the community at summer hill
The challengesLicensee level is untouchable because they are generally fair workers and bosses. Unfair work practice, harrowing toxic attitudes and general lack of progression comes from one manager at summer hill. Most Managers are trying their best to support workers.

I thoroughly enjoyed being employed by Matthew Hawker when he signed my papers for the probationary period being 3 months to work at the Bistro at Raintrees.
The good thingsI most enjoyed putting the plates and the cutlery in the rack then through the 1 cycle dishwasher, also then putting what comes out of the dishwasher away in their prospective places in the kitchen.
The challengesTo see to the Patrons sit down at the tables provided by the Raintrees staff in question and have good meal from the menu

The challengesManagement don’t care about their staff and neither does ALH. Pushed to work until your limit whilst working 12 hours a day almost everyday. Management incapable of doing their own jobs and forcing casuals to do it for them.

The good things50% discount off of Food throughout their hotels. Fringe discounts for other businesses.
The challengesCorporate company with too much emphasis on the money and not it's staff's wellbeing or the customer experience. This hotel group has lost it's positive reputation many years ago and since being taken over by Endeavor Group seems to be going down annually. Over 10 staff resigned in a month period in the hotel I just worked in. Management didn't care.

The good thingsEveryone, including both staff and patrons were nice to work with or serve and the overall environment was really nice to be in. My managers looked after me well and I don't really have any complaints at all
The challengesSometimes it would get very busy and obviously that brought challenges as keeping up quality of work under a high volume and pace is hard.
