    Duty Manager/Lifeguard
    Mar 2026
Sydney NSW 20004 to 5 years in the role, current employee
I would recommend this company for the lower casual roles but do not try and become a manager.
The good thingsThe team culture is great with the lifeguards CSO's and LTS teachers.
The challengesThe upper management is a joke. They treat staff like they're working in a corporate position making 200k+ not minimum wage workers. Anytime a Duty Manager tries to get something fixed for the safety of patrons and staff it is rejected as they are too lazy to do any of the work around making changes. You are treated as a number not a human which I believe after working in a place for 4 years and being a reliable employee is absurd.

The challengesManagement- they expect a lot for min wage. I was between jobs so I thought why not, Worst mistake ever.

    Poorly Maintained Environment
The good thingsI have flexible hours - good for a uni student.
The challengesManagement - I often inform them of major issues (broken appliances, roof leaks, pest issues) that are never acknowledged or resolved. Cupboards contain evidence of mice/rats, and mold.

Under the award wages, never get a minimum of 3 hours pay for being casual. Management are hopeless!
The good thingsThe lack of organisation from management often impacted everyone else. We were told it was our fault that things weren't running on time and the families were pulling out. Yet it was because other teachers have been calling in sick and parents weren't told, so they'd arrive expecting class
The challengesand we were the ones left to deal with it. On top of that, I had a manager try to rush through my assessment by pretending to be me. Also in one lesson I had one of the teacher told me in front of the kids that I need to be mean/bully them. When I told her I no, she tried to laugh it off.

A deeply disappointing and frustrating experience overall.
The good thingsDue to inexperienced and unqualified leadership, you might find more chances to step up.
The challengesWorst leadership I’ve seen—no culture, no direction. Feels like a group of disengaged uni students avoiding work. Leadership is unqualified and unaware. Toxic environment with low morale. Not a place for professionals. Avoid if you value your career.

    Low pay, but opportunities.
The good thingsWorking here you will move up the ranks if you are good at your role, but because your good at your role you get to do other peoples jobs as well :)
The challengesDealing with other terrible managers. Unresolved issues and just cost cutting. You will get burned out and overworked if you dont say NO

There are better places to work...
The good thingsGreat staff in terms of lifeguards.
The challenges- Poor management. There was a noticeable lack of transparency, accountability and many staff including myself were treated poorly. This often created a toxic workplace environment.

The challengesLack of up to date policy & procedures. Unrealistic targets/budgets which were often not achievable.

The good things- Opportunity to grow - If you're willing to take on challenges, you get a chance to learn a lot - Collegues
The challenges- Bottom line driven (well known), however cost cutting isn't fun - Head Office staff out of touch with what happens at centre level. Other then whats reported on a P&L - People treated as assets - zero work life balance

Great colleagues and immediate managers but head office pushes a lot of cost cutting and short-term thinking.
