    Higher level admin not valued
The good thingsNice staff to work with.
The challengesBudget cuts means less contracted hours, which means you have to apply for the job again. I applied for the same admin job twice. Because I'm a higher grade, they employed someone at a lower grade to save money. Experienced admin are not valued and are the first to go when the budget becomes tight.

Supportive team culture, putting patient/client care first. Collaboration is evident across departments.
The good thingsOften see staff go above and beyond for patients/clients. Personally, feel very supported and respected in my role.
The challengesWe can always 'do better', would love to see that culture across the whole organisation.

I enjoy the work environment and individuals I work with but change for efficiency is always a challenge due to lack of clear communication.
The good thingsAmazing new hospital to work in. Lucky to have a good manager that does not micromanage. Have learned a lot in a short period of time and trusted to do my work.
The challengesStreet parking for staff. Despite having the right expertise, executive management as a team are not solid communicators which is concerning. also not too decisive. understaffed and overworked.

They do not value HSA's hard work. Never offer permanent opportunity to casualls before advertise. No proper training for IT software, just learn yourself. Nurse Unit Managers only have clinical skills , no management/ people skill.
    The good thingsSalary packaging only

Generally good if you just do your job and don't ask for help.
The good thingsStaff in the hospital are generally friendly and happy to show new comers around.
The challengesTrying to advocate for an aged care resident and being ignored. Felt it was due to being an EEN, not an RN. Also found no support when becoming a single mum and struggling to take shifts and care for children you have sole care of.

Big gap between what Bendigo Health is and what it could be.
The good thingsWas a great organisation that achieved an amazing thing three years ago. The facilities are absolutely amazing.
The challengesSlipped downhill in the past couple of years. Opportunities for non-clinical staff have all gone and their contribution is not valued by the organisation at all. Culture of accepting mediocrity in senior management and executives. Also, loads of promises not delivered on. Management skills are not valued at all and are not developed by Bendigo Health. It is also accepted that Doctors can be rude and demeaning to staff and get away with it.

All in all, I wouldn't work there again. But friendly welcoming people and great work/life balance.
The good thingsSuch lovely people in general, really friendly and great as friends. Good work/life balance
The challengesSerious lack of experience in leadership, hard to explain as they really are such lovely people, but people are hired into roles they don't have experience with and unfortunately while that is ok in isolation of course, when it is in abundance it has lead to an extreme lack of experience across the organisation. Not so much technically at medical/nursing level, just at business and leadership level. Bad behaviours at the lower end are dealt with immediately, but the behaviours that were accepted at leadership level really shocked me, as did the way they managed budgets. Tax payers money absolutely wasted in my opinion. Also EXTREMELY change adverse.

    Disappointing
The good thingsSalary packaging. New hospital building is very nice to work in now most of the teething problems have been worked out.
The challengesWas promised a number of benefits which never eventuated, eg subsidised accommodation for first few months, free gym access. Chronically short staffed. Very little support from management. Mental health nursing is at least a decade behind NZ.

I have been supported to develop my skills across all areas of the service and am now in a position to take my career in the direction I had hoped for.
The good thingsSupportive workplace, striving to get to 'great'. Opportunities to take my career in any direction. Regional and metropolitan linkages and networks and encouragement to develop both innovation and research.
The challengesWorking in public health is always a challenge when it comes to allocation of sparse resources. Not a lot of alternatives as this is a major health employee in Bendigo.
