Provided payroll support to 20 schools over 15 years, plus training and a recruitment role.
The good thingsI enjoyed supporting a diverse group of schools, building strong working relationships, and contributing to accurate and reliable payroll outcomes.
The challengesAbility to recognise the individuality of each employee's needs and provide appropriate support, this was suggested to the management while I was working as a payroll trainer.

It was fun until they treated some staff as outcasts.
The good thingsGood pay rate, free onsite parking if you can find any.
The challengesAnnual training of respectful procedures was ignored when government stepped in with new requirements. These have since been removed.

Apply for the job, you will not regret working for BCE.
The good things146 schools with one new school P-12 school being added over the next 5 years, there is plenty of room for growth within BCE. The leadership is strong, the servanthood is genuine and the bottom line is, we do this for our young people across our many schools.
The challengesLimited parking at one of the 5 offices.

I would strongly recommend considering career opportunities at BCE.
The good thingsA wonderful collegial working environment where the focus is always on how we support our schools to give our students the best education.
The challengesA large decentralised organisation that can sometimes be slow to change.

The good thingsSupportive work place, based on Catholic values. They invests a lot in developing staff. They have high end IT systems and functions. I love working at Brisbane Catholic Education and would highly recommend it to anyone.
The challengesAs a school officer there are limited opportunities for career development.

With the changing climate within, a place to opt out of.
The good thingsLocal 'branch' teams are often your life-line, and in the main, full of good people. Holidays are plentiful.
The challengesClientele are becoming more challenging. Management have lost touch with the 'branches'. The values upon which Brisbane Catholic Education are based are given token recognition and are not reflected in their practices, especially in relation to their care of their workers,

7 to 8 years in the role, current employee
Fulfilling, valued, making a difference which is the real definition of teaching.
The good thingsHave even pay, sick pay long service as state school. Wages may not be as high as the big private schools but they are better than the small private schools. They don't have sport on Saturdays which means you have more family time. Wage increases every 3 years. A large employer so better job security and can move to more schools within the same employer maintaining your benefits.
The challengesOften the clientele can be challenging as you have a wider range of students form across society. Some resources are limited if you work in a lower socioeconomic area as I do.

I am valued and in turn value my experience in this educational environment as I am constantly able to grow in my ability and share my considerable experience with others.
The good thingsGreat colleagues who are professional, excellent in their fields and overwhelmingly friendly and supportive. The Administration Team are cohesive and child centred leading a teaching team that values individual learning programs.
The challengesBeing new has its challenges to learn the school systems and procedures and develop relationships with students that can only be done so over time.
