A great learning opportunity with supportive managers
The good thingsThe nurse bank provides opportunity to work in diverse work places in the hospital and you can gain exposure to different nursing aspects. The nurse bank managers are exceptional at treating their staff well. They are very understanding to promote good work life balance and help to assist to make things easier for staff to work. There is also a designated clinical development nurse for 'nurse bank' that organises education sessions, and staff can call to utilise one on one to learning new competences or updating practises.
The challengesBig learning curve when you transition into the role to adapt to different environments each day. Some departments in the hospital are not as helpful towards staff compared to others.

Wouldn’t go back and couldn’t recommend it to anyone.
The good thingsCan’t think of any. Some great nurses in a bad environment.
The challengesExecutives who had lost touch. Staff turnover was incredible. Under-resourced in many departments. Those who spoke loudest were heard. Patient centred care seemed lost.

The best place I can think of for a new graduate year - amazing support and so many professional development opportunities.
The good thingsAmazing team. Great support and supervision.
The challengesThe only challenge I have experienced is adjusting to work life after university - however that is an unavoidable challenge and the team and environment have made the transition very smooth.

This hospital provides excellent training and support for new nurses to become skilled professionals
The good thingsStaff are very supportive; health care is organised to minimise errors; provides programs to enhance skills; teamwork encouraged; pleasant work environment; care is collaborative efforts between nursing, medical and other members of multidisciplinary team involved in caring the patient towards improved outcomes; nurse educator supports new staff in the ward; senior staff and manager support nurses on the floor during peak hours
The challengesThe ward I worked was for acute elderly patients; some patients have reduced functional capacity. There are challenges to keep them safe. The hospital provided training and extra staff to support management of these patients
