DO NOT WORK FOR CGU. TERRIBLE PLACE TO WORK FOR.
The good thingsWorking from home. Expected to be in office once a week only. I also get to work part time I received a small bonus of $1K+ every year
The challengesUpper management have made heaps of decisions without considering staff morale. The changes have been constant Micro management Team members are constantly dobbing on each other instead of approaching the person who made a "Mistake" I do not even know how to do my job anymore. Constant underwriting changes and they do not get recorded till a few weeks later (if at all). You then get "spoken to" if you make a mistake and accept a risk which is now considered a decline Terrible team morale. The senior underwriters are not approachable and learning is limited. The new system which will be introduced soon is not user friendly at all. Dreadful pay. We seem to be one of the lowest out there

Not a place to work if your looking for job stability and consistency.
The good thingsThe people (80%) and the employee benefits.
The challengesRestructures and retrenchments every 6-12 months Lack of consistency even in the same team across different States Policies and visions set at the top (HO) do not get delivered at departmental level as they're lost in cultural translation or poor mid level management Managers say one thing and do another, they manage and do not LEAD. Departmental silo's and poor communication between teams Too many projects, system and process changes and never ending training, compliance modules and staying up to speed with the above.

    Disappointing waste of time
The good thingsGetting paid every fortnight.
The challengesContinual restructuring meant they got rid of highly knowledgeable people to be replaced by green inexperienced people who only got prompted because they are friends with management. Development and career progression is non-existent unless you befriend management. Working hard and going beyond is not recognized, whereas underperformers are protected and rewarded.

I found working for CGU Insurance to be excellent, until the above noted challenges became to stressful.
The good thingsCGU Insurance made you feel like a valuable employee, I felt empowered to do my role, they provided a strong sense of belonging and provided many perks that enable work like balance such as the School Holiday program.
The challengesMy last role was within General Insurance which covered a ride range of products and Broker Networks such as Steadfast, Aust Brokers, IBNA to name a few, this meant I needed to become fluent across multiple polices & brands whilst working in a call center environment, looking after calls from different states and owning a large number of case managed files.

Pretty good experience. Incredibly difficult some days to due to stress levels and lack of role clarity and development opportunities. Good environment overall though.
The good thingsThe staff are pretty great people. They do try to create work/life/balance where possible and accommodate staff members. Good benefits.
The challengesWith any large company there will always be stressful periods and challenges to get ahead or be developed. Unfortunately there are not enough/ often no development or career progression opportunities. Often a lack of role clarity or understanding of role and impact within structures from upper management.

Good company to work for if you are willing to take your role seriously and not expect it to be like high school.
The good thingsLots of team communications. Good support from managers all levels.
The challengesSometime balance between customer's needs and company's requirements is tested. But if it takes longer than expected to sort a customer's issue, I just stuck with it. Lasted over five years so must have got the balance right .

Enjoyed the dynamics of being challenged and being appeciated.
The good thingsCGU embraces diversity and equal opportunities very well. The Managers are approachable and are employee focused.
The challengesManager/Executive to focus on individual employees' skills and match them with appropriate training/education to achieve a position where that individual will thrive and be challenged. When an individual is passionate about their job, the company will reap the benefits financially and have a happy workforce. The individual employee will be happy, motivated, know the company appreciates them and hopefully be remunerated accordingly...A WIN/WIN SITUATION!
