    Outdated systems and stressful workload
The good thingsConvenient location. Pleasant facilities. Individuals with good hearts and friendly faces.
The challengesLifehouse IT is built on outdated systems using decade old infrastructure, with little opportunity for proactive improvements. While I worked in this role, I faced high workloads with high expectations but without a matching salary. I was treated with poor attitude from staff as a whole, with clear hierarchy between departments. Even within my own IT department, there was a lack of team spirit and a disconnect between my team and management. Constant cost cutting measures led to downgrades of provided services, which inconvenienced our in house staff, leading to complaints handled by my role. Every step forward was met with an equal and opposite reaction. I would not recommend this role since conditions did not improve over 3 years.

Rewarding, inspirational and full of opportunity
The good thingsThe Clinics Outpatient Team Leader Liz Simic was the most reliable, informative and fair person in management. My journey at Lifehouse was positive because of the constant support and training provided by her and her team. Opportunities come up very often in this Hospital and there is always room to grow if you show initiative and hard work! It was so very rewarding to be a part of a patient's journey being able to help and go above and beyond for patient satisfaction.
The challengesChallenging would be the fast paced environment but once fully trained it was enjoyable especially with a great team.

I had to leave Lifthouse due to family commitments but if I was to return to Sydney it would be my first port of call for employment.
The good thingsAmazing staff whom often felt more like family than colleagues. Everyone at Life House goes above and beyond for patients and for each other a real culture of care and hope fill this entire facility.
The challengesBeing a not for profit sometimes money was tight and so you had to be creative with the resources on hand, The nature of the work was often emotionally taxing but manageable.

Very rewarding place to work, and only getting better.
The good things- The Hospital values that everybody really works by, and are held to. They aren't just fluff written on a poster and ignored. - New, amazing facility. - Apparently has one of the highest employee engagement ratings, and you can see it. Everyone is on the same page and working for the patients, very satisfying.
The challengesCancer is a terrible disease, it can be a tough environment to work in. Managers and staff are supportive though.

Brilliant organisation living and breathing the dreams of Chris O'Brien
The good thingsThere is nothing quite like being able to feel proud of the place you work and to feel that when you walk through the doors. I am proud of the work this hospital does and also proud of the team I work with.

Lifehouse embraces its community, staff and patients alike, which makes for a very profound experience.
The good thingsA very positive, supportive culture based on empathy and kindness. It's a great learning environment and an easy place to promote as the community supports our vision and mission.
The challengesLifehouse is a startup with lean operations which requires a certain amount of creativity in marketing and PR efforts. Working in the cancer space can be hard, though it also gives great rewards on a personal level in terms of connections and experiences with people.

I like helping people through tough times and working for a not-for-profit.
The good thingsThe good things are my managers - I only had two and they were outstanding. I also like the fact the hospital is quite new and things aren't done a particular way just because they have always been done that way. If you can see a better way to do things, your suggestions are welcomed and sometimes implemented.
The challengesCancer nursing is not for everyone as, inevitably, some patients don't make it through. Because we see patients most days for several weeks or months we get to know them quite well and it can be distressing when they pass on.

This has been one of the best employers in my career. My colleagues were creative, funny, hard working and kept the hospital's patient's best interests at heart at all times.
The good thingsI've particularly enjoyed working with responsive, humorous managers and colleagues who are always willing to lend a hand, a business-wide emphasis on finding better ways to do things, a passion for helping patients and their families during what is a very difficult time and meeting amazing patients who display grace under fire.
The challengesIt is sad seeing the families of those at the end of their lives, but this experience has inspired me to try to make the most of my life and acknowledge beauty and the good things in life more often.

Bitter sweet experience. Management is a major let-down of this placement.
The good thingsGood team! Helping each other despite being overwhelmingly stressed-out with the staffing issues and patient load.
The challengesPoor staffing mix and patient ratio. Poor management. They tend to just react momentarily in terms of their decision making, not carefully studying changes and things they are imposing. Management never considers patient load and staffing mix as an issue. They are trying to change things but I guess they have budget constraints.
