    Toxic management ruined my career
The good thingsI worked for seven years at Powercor and enjoyed my time there. Until I applied for and was successful in getting a Work Scheduler role. Then the toxic work enviroment started. Be very careful if you want to work here.
The challengesToxic management expecting unrealistic goals

    Great pay but insidiously toxic
The good thingsMet some great people working there, the pay is decent and some of the employee perks are good. It’s great for lineys - the company really looks after the workers on the tools. The head office worker experience is very different though.
The challengesSenior leadership fosters a toxic environment of fear and intimidation. Foreign/Chinese ownership means zero accountability or concern over how the job is done, the bottom line is all that matters. Horrible work life balance and hands down the most psychologically damaging place I’ve ever worked.

Great company to work for, but a very toxic environment to work within...
The good thingsExcellent group of people to work with and ability to learn more than just your role. Plenty of training opportunities presented to you. Good pay and benefits.
The challengesPoor, inexperience and toxic behavior from direct/local management. Goal posts moved on daily basis with no consistency in being able to routinely work to meet these goals. Whilst flexible working arrangements were promoted, they didn't exist - no hybrid working model, requirement to be on site 4 days a week, ability to work at other sites reduced which resulted in the breakdown of working relationships with teams. Career advancement dependent on personal relationships with management.

The best employer i have ever had by far. I actively promote positions to friends all the time.
The good thingsThe benefits are above and beyond. From pay to perks you are well rewarded here. The people you work with are great and Management are accessible and engaged.
The challengesA high casual/contract workforce and limited permanent positions in some areas of the business. A lot of complacency from some long term employees.

    Middle management
    May 2018
Great people at a middle to lower level of the business, covering for a executive team that do not have an understand of the challanges at an operational level. Was once a good business but that has changed and is now impacting customers and communities.
The good thingsOnce a great business and is full of great people that truly make things happen on a day to day basis.
The challengesNew systems that have been introduced are not working and have not been supported by upper management, head count reductions and restructuring is a constant normal activity that has now pushed the business and its culture to a poor state

Once was a great place that employees had pride in, now a shambles led by Managers only trying to meet individual KPI's.
The good thingsGreat bunch of workers at the team level, variety of work and a great location.
The challengesIT Senior Management team decided to outsource IT Ops Support and lost too much experience, then the Management team left as well - go figure. No Management understanding of the risks associated with outsourcing core IT support in a Tightly Regulated Business only a push to meet KPI's for staff & cost reduction.

While it was challanging it was also rewarding in so many ways.
The good thingsThe wage was fantastic and the hours were great. The opportunity to get extra income was readily available s long as I was willing to put in the hours.
The challengesMostly irate people calling to let us know they had no power. A large portion were really needing to call their retailer as they had been disconnected due to non payment but the challenge was getting those people to understand that. Also when the smart meter was installed it was incredibly draining but the hours and the wages were well worth it. I would have loved permanent there but because it is seasonal work this was not possible or I would have still been with the company.
