My experience at CPL was disheartening, marked by poor management, ignored communication, and a toxic culture of nepotism and favouritism.
The good thingsThe only meaningful part of working at CPL was supporting the clients.
The challengesThere is a clear and ongoing culture of nepotism and favouritism, where certain staff are consistently prioritised for shifts and opportunities based on personal relationships rather than merit. This creates a toxic and unfair environment for others who are equally (if not more) committed and capable. HR is unresponsive, and management regularly ignores staff emails, even when the matters raised are important or time-sensitive. Communication is poor across the board, and concerns are often swept aside or spoken about behind your back rather than being addressed directly or professionally. Unless you’re part of the “in-group,” don’t expect fairness, consistency, or genuine support in this workplace. I wouldn’t recommend CPL to anyone looking for a healthy, respectful, or well-managed work environment.

Great place to start out in the disability sector, but beyond that, the culture becomes toxic, support disappears, and burnout is inevitable.
The good thingsI started at CPL as a Support Worker and had a mostly positive experience. I worked with amazing clients and supportive colleagues. Management at the time helped me build my skills and offered flexibility that suited my studies and personal life, making the role rewarding and balanced.
The challengesIn a later senior role, the environment became toxic. Management was manipulative and ignored staff feedback. Burnout was high, workloads were excessive, and taking leave was discouraged. There was no support or recognition, and staff were expected to do the work of multiple roles.

A very team orientated organisation which strives to assist people to achieve their individual goals.
The good thingsCPL, Mylestones Employment is a fantastic organisation to work for. I have always felt valued and listened to. Achievements for staff and clients are celebrated. I have found the role has variety, very rewarding, allows growth in many ways, very team orientated. Wage level is very competitive.
The challengesAt times the challenges can seem difficult, incredible, with teamwork and problem solving we have always managed to get through this with great results.

Strong core values and dedicated to helping our clients
The good thingsI have been working for the company for over 7 years and have always found Mylestones to be a very supportive and encouraging company to work for who care for the health and wellbeing of all staff and their clients.
The challengesEvery role will have it's challenges but it's how you react and step up to those challenges that makes a difference.

    My experience at CPL
The good thingsLot's of hours available and the pay is pretty good. There’s a chance to move up in the company, especially if the manager likes you, since they usually hire from within. Some of the support workers are great. The rostering team is friendly and supportive. The internal training is great.
The challengesUnderstaffed -underperforming employees were often retained. Lack of performance management. Manual handling issues were not adequately addressed. Management prioritises the satisfaction of guardians over the safety and wellbeing of participants/staff

Management would over promise and under deliver.
The good thingsMost clients were good. Some Managerial Staff were very supportive and proactive.
The challengesSome of the clients were very rude. Some Management would really give you hardly any shifts even when you were competent and experienced. Managers never thought outside the box. The simply limited you work to clients you had always worked with rather then giving you shifts with new clients.

A supportive environment for entry into DSW.
The good thingsAbility to pick up extra shifts, but also to say no. Training included. Managers very approachable and supportive. Staff, passionate and caring.
The challengesSome staff were difficult, had been with the company too long and were set in their ways of supporting.

Really consider if you should support such a profit driven company.
The good thingsThe clients. Most clients are lovely as are most frontline staff.
The challengesOccasionally find a staff member who really shouldn’t be working in disability. Management not listening to feedback after frontline staff training new staff who send up being proven to bring ill fit for certain clients Management is only money / profit driven. Clients are often left without staff due to mismanagement; not wanting to pay current staff on shift overtime when no other options for staffing. Active hours are constantly challenged despite evidence from clients & paperwork. If a client is sick and needs a support shift they always say there is no funding yet there is. Staff have many clients each per nightly sleepover but CPL taking the funding from each of them. Complaints are rarely followed up. Questionable treatment of staff and clients from middle / upper management

Awful. I wouldn't recommend anyone to work with CPL.
The good thingsThe front-line staff are all hard-working, lovely people. It's quite often the only reason people stick around.
The challengesManagement is unwilling to help and support their own staff. They throw frontline staff 'under the bus' before admitting to any fault of their own. It's a toxic work environment that breeds further toxicity and it stems from the management.

If you’re someone wanting to make a difference then this isn’t the place for you, if you want to be consumed by anxiety and stress then it’s the perfect job!!
The good thingsThe clients are incredible, you will only stay because of them.
The challengesLack of training, you’ll be thrown into the deepend even if you’ve never worked in the industry previously. All staff are completely burnt out and miserable, the clients are left to suffer whilst the execs and facilitators fill their pockets.

Supportive team, I learnt a lot through the 3 different roles while I was at CPL. Each complimenting the other in the learning process. The managing team were always supportive & if they could help you they would always make suggestions on who possibly could
The good thingsWorking with CPL was a fantastic opportunity, the clients were great to work with, there was always something new happening, good variety of work opportunities, great support from staff & peer's. Very educational CPL has always been on top of updating & educating staff for all aspects of high care needs.
The challengesChallenges being things can change quickly with the clients we cared for or for the staff that assisted the clients. Making sure all needs were met & staff were not overwhelmed.

The support staff and clients are amazing and rewarding to work with...The Corporate Management operate on a single brain cell.
The good thingsThe "coal-face" people you work with and of course the clients.
The challengesCorporate Management is so out of touch with the basic reason for being there - the Clients. Ridiculous amounts of "red tape" - worse than government. Genuine fear of change so you have to work with outdated processes and limited room for growth.

Great culture and purpose, and doing great things
The good thingsWhere to start! CPL has given me more opportunities than anywhere I've worked before. I do interesting work, have been provided with formal and informal opportunities for progression, and work alongside great people who are so committed to the work we do with clients. After Covid, we also have more flexible working opportunities than ever before - far greater than my friends and family say they have.
The challengesWe're always pushed for resources, which means progress is sometimes slower than we'd like or we have to work a bit harder or faster to get stuff done. Salaries are OK for NFP (with salary packaging). I could earn more in corporate, but I think I'd miss the culture and purpose.

If you must work in Employment Services, look for a 5 Star rated DES.
The good things- Colleagues. - Clients. - Car with a fuel card.
The challenges- Reactive Management, good staff not appreciated. - Limited promotion from within. - 'Finding Better Ways'? No opportunity to provide feedback, as EXIT interviews don't exist.

The good thingsWonderful culture, innovative, progressive and inclusive. It's great to be part of an organisation who really believes in what they do.
The challengesThe pandemic and recent floods have been challenging for service delivery teams. But again the organisation rises above, is nimble and adapts to ensuring everyone has access to support. Work flexibility is incredible and has helped keep things functioning during lock downs.

Great culture, supportive management and feel as though you are really making a difference.
The good thingsNo two days are ever the same. The people absolutely make this business one of the best ones I've worked in. They are incredibly supportive and focused on making a difference in the community. We also have a high degree of flexibility and trust within our roles. You are trusted to get the job done and have a wonderful balance of wfh vs. office.
The challengesIt is a suprisingly large business and with that comes challenges in terms of learning how the different sections of the business operates. It can take a bit longer to learn than a standard business. Once you have the hang of it though it all really makes sense and is one of the reasons I love it - all the different sections are so different it makes things very interesting.
