ideallic paradise on the outside, not so much on the inside. i will not be back.
The good thingshad a great team of drivers during my time. great view from my office (windscreen)
The challengesneed decent equipment to suit the job, broken buses is not a good look. something that cannot be fixed is rude clients. staff accomodation could be a little better and staff bar/cafe needs better food at more realistic prices.

Work any other role and you’ll be fine.
The good thingsEveryone else was wonderful and the island is beautiful.
The challengesThe executive concierge is an embarrassment to the island and its values. Working for her was like living in hell everyday.

Maintenance - 3 years on islandPositive - Ability to save for the future as Staff Accom Prices are Low - Good team moral with Co-Workers on the same level as you Negative - Toxic Management across the Maintenance Department - Security advertised as being there to control and protect everyone on the island but only there to target Staff Members - Prices for Staff Outlet increase at a high rate - Pay does not compensate what you're expected to do - Safety concerns ignored

If I hadn’t lived on an island for two months it would have been the worst experience
The good thingsLiving on a luxury private island was impeccable, the sunshine beaches and weather is a huge draw card when choosing to relocate to an island
The challengesManagement throughout HIE are very close minded and not open to progression, sustainability or creating a positive work environment. HR don’t take complaints seriously and say what they think you want to hear, and promise change with no action.

    Working on Hamilton island
The good thingsThis job allowed me to work on an island with accommodation provided. It let me have a great work life balance whilst still completing 40plus hour weeks with multiple split shifts. The job was so therapeutic yet fast paced - it wouldn’t feel like a “draining” 40hr week. I gained many leadership experience and skills whilst leading my own teams and being a self checker.
The challengesI didn’t find any challenges whilst working for Hamilton Island Enterprises

If you like to party and get wild this is your job.
The good thingsMeeting new people and making friends. Free ice cream and drinks from stock (Managers approval) cheap Whitsunday Cruise tickets. Decent accommodation.
The challengesNo consistency, lack of safety and training. Everything is out dated including SOP's. Always suggesting and never get heard from. Goes in one ear and out the other. Management isn't supportive. Get paid more working off the island. IGA doesn't come with staff discount.

Unhealthy environment, Unhealthy senior long term staff (not all of them possibly). Unhealthy and unqualified HR when there are issues. Basically major issues due to long stayers making it work for them and not the island. Experience bad unless you comply and are there for a short time. Young run amuck. Designed for them.
The good thingsLiving on a tropical island
The challengesWorking with unqualified people and guest complaints about staff

    Living the dream... Island life!
The good thingsYou'll either love it, or hate it but give it a least 6 months and immerse your self in the organised staff activities, your staff benefits and you'll realise your living the dream!
The challengesWhilst the mainland is only 1 hour away by ferry to Airlie Beach, if you don't get off the island regularly distance and being out of touch with the real world can make your location feel isolated or remote.
