Supportive and caring with the opportunities to grow both personally and professionally.
The good thingsThe culture is very positive and supportive. There is alot of potential to grow personally with regular coaching sessions and the opportunity to move to other areas of the business. I have not worked in a company that cares as much as HBF does and the care factor is a true reflection of their actions and values.
The challengesThe only challenge I find is some of the member issues can be a balancing act professionally and emotionally due to their complexities.

Supportive team environment with a focus on ongoing development.
The good thingsSuch a positive experience so far! The level of support provided stood out immediately, making it a great environment to settle into and start learning. The team is incredibly friendly and genuinely cares about their members, which creates a strong sense of purpose in the work we do.
The challengesMaintaining alignment and connection with remote teams can present challenges, however this is mitigated by regular opportunities to connect.

Warm and welcoming place to work where people care about making a positive impact!
The good thingsThe majority of people I've met and worked with since I started at HBF have been incredibly friendly and welcoming. I work within a great division of high performing people who care about the work they do, the impact they make, and the experience that our people have. I'm also very fortunate to have a supportive, patient and understanding manager who helps me bring the best version of myself to work every day.
The challengesMy direct team is very lean so sometimes it can be challenging when we go through periods of high work volume. The broader business is usually very understanding and makes sure to check in and provide support when this happens. We also have a lot of internal systems that don't talk to each other but we are in the process of changing this so hopefully processes will be a bit more seamless and less manual in the near future!

    Not worth the stress.
The good thingsMet some amazing people I can now call friends. the members are amazing. Nice kitchen space with snack area.
The challengesWow. Where to begin. Very poor management. The TL’s are inexperienced and of course, have favourites. The system is incredibly flawed and difficult to navigate. I have ptsd from it all. Very unrealistic statics. I saw one TL put a sign on a Employee chair saying “don’t talk to me I’m easily distracted “… they have promoted that TL… says it all.

The quality of the team and the overall culture make it a genuinely positive place to work.
The good thingsThe recruitment process was seamless and well‑organised from start to finish. HBF offers a great work–life balance, and the people are supportive and welcoming.
    The challengesNothing at this stage

People‑centred, flexible workplace with strong leadership and an exceptional team culture.
The good thingsI’m fortunate to work with an amazing, supportive team and feel genuinely valued as a working parent. The flexibility to work both in the office and from home, combined with strong connection across a geographically dispersed team, makes a real difference. I love the work I do and am inspired by the bold, people‑focused leadership demonstrated across the organisation.
The challengesHonestly, I love everything about HBF. They are constantly looking within to improve and be better every day for its employees and its members.

Great friends and great team. I was given skills that have helped me succeed in my next roll
The good thingsGreat team, flexible working hours, reputable brand. I was offered development and mentored by my manager. No late nights, no weekends.
The challengesThe old systems were clunky and hard to use. The new systems are so much better! Leave is sometimes hard to get in busy periods

What the public get isn't what the employees experience.
The good thingsDiscounted health insurance and the friends I have made. The knowledge of the health insurance industry and the wider medical business of Australia.
The challengesArchaic and antiquated leadership style based on micro-management and monitoring. Values are often held accountable for majority of the member facing staff but seldom displayed by managers and senior leadership. A culture of walking on eggshells pervades through the front-line team, bought on by a quite disabling feedback and coaching structure, where your own expression of voice is slowly removed. It's a shame that a business so adored and respected by the West Australian public, can feel so alien from that perception when inside.

The good thingsNo day is ever the same, HBF is very big on internal development and personal development and will support you if you have aspirations. Hours are very social and allows for a good balance in and out of work.
The challengesPeak times of the year are very busy and you can blink and the day is gone. But you do it surrounded by an awesome team and peer group, all of who will support and check-in on you!

Great culture. Good work like balance.
The good thingsGreat career progression. The support you receive to improve in your area and the opportunity to move into other roles within the business are always supported. The culture is really great and they look after you. Create good work relationships. Plus you receive good benefits
The challengesThere isn't much I don't like that couldn't be related to any other job. Planning leave can be hard as working in a corporate business you need to plan leave around availability. But this is easy to get use to.

Welcome and supportive team who seek efficiencies and innovation!
The good thingsBenefits for all roles across the organisation, cross team collaboration and development opportunities for those who want to build a long-term career. HBF is genuinely committed to the wellbeing of both its members and employees providing flexibility in WHF and flexible arrangements for part time.
The challengesSome tech is no longer fit for purpose but a review is currently in place to uplift in line with best in market.

Not paid enough for the workload.
The good thingsFree Gold Hospital cover, if you need it. The people are mostly great.
The challengesTheir updated program for customer interactions is awful, clunky and slow. Makes member interactions take way longer than necessary, as well as adding on stress to the consultants.

Not a complete waste of my time, made some good friends, got to do a few cool things and learn a few new skills.
The good thingsThe people in the team, free gold hospital cover if you need that. Some good opportunities rarely offered.
The challengesPoor upper management, lots of politics and it's about who you know not what you know. Strung along with promise of progression but they don't even make an effort. No trust to do what you are hired to do and don't like any different ideas or opinions. Constant lying and no accountability.

HBF is a good place to work and grow your career.
The good thingsI have been at HBF for over 10 years and have been able to progress my career in ways that I wouldn't have thought possible. The benefits are also highly desirable with fully subsidised top level hospital cover and the building facilities are modern and well maintained.
The challengesWorkload can be rather heavy in comparison to others and there have been instances of cliques / politicking which I do not care for.

The good thingsTeam I work with is amazing, discounted hospital cover is always a bonus
The challengesmicromanaging, managers barely listen to what you are telling them, one of the core values is members are our reason however the only members that matter are the younger ones. they don't care about the older members who have been with us for 50+ years and are continuously closing branches

The good thingsDiscount on private health insurance.
The challengesMicromanaging, cult like culture. Long term staff are very clicky and competitive.

Don't be fooled by the adds this is not a cute, fun place to work - Just like they say at Rottnest 'Don't touch the Quokka'
The good thingsThe conversation framework is a great life skill, which will enable you to have meaningful interactions with people.
The challengesLOTS -firstly money awful. Shift work with weekly changes to start and finish times jerking around any consistent plans outside work. The job itself is overly intense with back to back calls and an expectation to not stop. There is heavy micro management and heavy quality scrutiny. There is no interest in hearing any feedback from employees to improve things or any creative license in what you say or do. In terms of career development only 2 real avenues are Team Leadership or Claims processing (a sideway movement) if this is not for you your unlikely to get even an interview (although you will get teased with an opportunity to sit in an area your interested for 30 mins to watch).
