Overall, good workplace. Has its advantages and disadvantages. Worth a shot.
The good thingsGreat managers and support. Staff benefits like $2 tickets and some great staff members, others cant be bothered working though.
The challengesIf you're under 18, the pay is quite low compared to other employers.

I enjoyed it but i would not recommend applying since you will be overworked and underpaid.
The good thingsExtremely friendly crew, You will easily make friends at this company. A lot of downtimes between holidays seasons and when there are less popular movies are out so you will just be standing around talking and doing other tasks just to get through the day at these times.
The challengesLack of hours. Hoyts is always hiring and they always want to have a lot of staff which leaves people on minimum hours which could be as little as 8 hours per week. Bad Pay. the payrate is horrendous you barely scrape minimum wage with no penalty rates for weekends. Bad working conditions. yeah sometimes its chill but during holidays and on weekends that have big titles being released, you will become understaffed and will have to pick up extra tasks for no extra pay or gratitude from the management. Bad customer. since this is a customer service role you will have to deal with a lot of customers sometimes they can be incredibly rude and disrespectful. Cleaning messy cinemas is the job that you sign up for, but some sessions are just disgusting movies such as the Minecraft movie and a lot of the Bollywood movies caused a lot of stress for the staff on since customers sometimes trash the cinemas.

Easy enough, but I would rather work anywhere else, work more and get compensated for it.
The good thingsAn easy enough job, but it can be stressful when busy and there is a lack of staff. Always a bit of fun having a chat with a customer on a quiet day. Usually, really good colleagues, but I can't say the same for management. Discounted tickets and some food items are probably the best things about the job.
The challengesManagement acts like you owe them your life, and they don't care when something personally affects you or your team (eg, threats, physical altercations with customers) Pay is so incredibly bad and no penalty rates, so you've to be working here if you're a student or if you have a love for the game

Enjoyable work but stressful and overwhelming during new movie releases
The good thingsCleaning cinemas, scheduling/dividing tasks up and teamwork.
The challengesCustomer service was often stressful due to uncooperating guests. Checking ID for 18+ movies was always a task in itself. Understaffed, frequently having to do a three person task by yourself, and having to work into unpaid overtime to finish them

Relaxed job but toxic work environment and zero support from management.
The good thingsMeet like minded people and make friends for outside of work
The challengesTrainers are busy talking to their mates over actually doing their job in training you. Roster is not flexible, there is absolutely no consistency in shifts times and very unpredictable.

A fun experience, very few cons personally
The good thingsThe staff are incredibly kind and helpful, you'll make great friends working here. The job itself is pretty easy to get the hang of. Management treats everyone with respect, they will try and make you very comfortable and you feel safe to report any issues to them,
The challengesThe general public being incredibly messy and having to clean a cinema that seats 280-314 people with just a spray, mitt and broom/dustpan alone or with 1 other person is frustrating. May feel a bit pressured by management at times to be trained in areas you're uninterested in. Some guests can be quite rude and demanding, when the majority of staff are minors people doing their best

HOYTS is a good stepping stone to management, though watch how you progress.
The good thingsTraining and advancement opportunities are AMAZING, good stepping stone into management opportunities here. The people who you work with are very cool people
The challengesThe salary is relatively low compared to other industries, practically a few cents above minimum wage. In addition, the management is not very understanding in terms of employee needs, and puts their own interests/company first, rostering people with 3 days notice, forcing people to close and then open, etc. You have a ridiculous amount of down time sometimes, and are expected to find things to do such as stock, clean or run errands.

The good thingsVery few, but the people I worked with directly were pretty great
The challengesHead office breathing down your neck Ridiculous demands Incompetent management Poorly treated by management/head office/customers Rosters released 3 days beforehand, no flexibility in swapping shifts Often rostered on outside your availability then get reprimanded if you can't make that shift Forever understaffed and under-resourced

Great throughout schooling with flexible hours but low pay.
The good thingsIf you get along with your co-workers its a great experience.
The challengesLow pay, no incentive to work hard. Work loads can be unrealistic , not all workers put in effort.

Overall have made some amazing friends here, and that's what you would stay at a job for most of the time :)
The good thingsDefinitely the people, you make some good friends here along the way. The work is easy and the management is very friendly and easy to be around!
The challengesThe pay is very low, and the work hours have been minimised due to the amount of new staff employment.

    Exhausting
The good thingsOther employees were friendly and nice to socialise with. Management was okay.
The challengesThey didn't put enough people on during holiday times which was extremely stressful. They throw you in the deep end - they made me close nearly the entire place by myself on a friday night during holidays on my third ever shift, and the work was just way too demanding and tiring for the pay (or lack thereof - i.e, no holiday/weekend rates). Training was nearly impossible because they were too understaffed to have time to train you properly. Overall just seemed unorganised and exploitative and other employees seemed unhappy. Also so unsanitary.

Overall a very rewarding experience for me and I'm grateful for the experiences I had and skills I developed.
The good thingsI enjoyed the working environment and interacting with my fellow team members as well as customers. In addition, working here at a young age allowed me to develop important communication skills and experience in a fast paced working environment, which has greatly helped me develop my character further and improve my confidence and ability.
The challengesBeginning training in a new area was always daunting at first, and at times I found it difficult to keep up with what was required. However, with the assistance of fellow staff and trainers, these hardships were eased.

I would not recommend this to anyone outside of young adults looking for their first job. It's a good entry point in that regard. Anyone outside of that demographic - stay away.
The good thingsMet some great people working here. Cheap movies are a novelty in the beginning - you'll get so sick of the place however that you'll not want to visit in your off time.
The challengesManagement and head office are incredibly out of touch with their workers and customer base. Viewed as 'expendable' and 'replaceable' due to culture of hiring young teenagers who are looking to break into the workforce. Internal hiring for management positions are awarded to people who didn't even apply for them without any communication to people who actually applied and interviewed. Expected to maintain high level of work and efficiency with little to no resources, minimal staff as shifts are always cut for no reason - leaving the team shorthanded and under extreme pressure. List goes on.

An enjoyable experience, however with flaws
The good thingsAll employees that work at Hoyts are extremely friendly and it is always enjoyable to go to work.
The challengesConsidering the amount of work that employees have to do the pay is very poor, especially seeing as all employees are part time workers, therefore there are no weekend rates.

I really enjoyed my career within the Hoyts Group first at Val Morgan and then at Hoyts, It had a great culture and was a fun place to work, I was promoted twice, worked on interesting projects and supported by a strong and talented leadership group.

The challengesIt is a high performance culture with many projects and deliverables.
