Working with colleagues and staff that always out the customer first.
The good thingsInteracting with customers and providing real assistance to make their lives better.
The challengesI sometimes found working in a not-for-profit was a challenge, after working in some very commercial environments.

Better training and support, little to no staff consultation and poor behaviour tolerated.
The good thingsEngaging and building relationships with residents, and making a positive impact on their daily lives.
The challengesBetter training and support, particularly during induction and probation. Clearer communication and consultation from IRT Management and across teams within the facility. Management needs to set and enforce clear expectations for staff behaviour to improve psychological safety.

Colleagues were great, management – not so much
The good thingsSatisfaction of providing care to the residents and assisting them with daily living.
The challengesThe working environment was consistently toxic, marked by a significant lack of support, clear communication, and respect. Staff feeling unappreciated, unheard, and undervalued. This created a work environment where employees were often pitted against each other, and there was little to no effort to address conflicts or improve relationships.

Since starting my employment career in aged care, It's giving me strength and an enjoyable experience.
The good thingsI enjoy that the employer celebrates NAIDOC WEEK
The challengesEveryday has it's challenges when working with older people that are living with Dementia, Alzhiemer's disease and diversity, people that come from different backgrounds and have different personalities.

Loved being able to work in an environment where I could assist people to enjoy their lives
The good thingsThe Retirees, I enjoyed my daily chats with the villages both happy and sad and knowing they enjoyed mine as well. Little things like listening can change a persons outlook on life .
The challengesThe Management and the systems were closed and not able to keep up with changes - pretty ordinary

The good thingsSome good staff and residents
The challengesshort staffing and salary is below what is stated on the Enterprise agreement. The shadow management do't know what they are doing and can't expect any support ever.

I wish IRT had never taken over
The good thingsMy clients were lovely. I'll miss them painfully!
The challengesRostering was atrocious, the distance workers were expected to travel was unreasonable. Not enough fuel allowance was paid to compensate either. Management were also very difficult to deal with, and unreasonable. Prior to IRT taking over, my job was enjoyable and management then were fine to deal with. Not so anymore! They have made it impossible to enjoy the work/clients, and don't care a toss what workers think or feel.

A fabulous learning experience and a privilege to work for IRT.
The good thingsFantastic organisation to work for, great staff, great vision and capacity to 'keep it real' up to the highest level. Great opportunities to contribute to strategy and improvement for all staff levels.
The challengesHR were not very good at responding to workplace issues (fortunately over 1 employee only). HR could benefit from a better process for managing employee complaints in this regard.
